I am completing college application. I got stuck on the mother's name.

I am living with my step mother in USA but my mother is in my country, so should I put my mother's name in the application or my step mother's name in the application?

As someone has stated previously, you want to list your biological mother if you still have any relationship with her. If no real/legal relationship exists, then your stepmother would be most appropriate. Schools use this information for two primary reasons:

1) Emergency contact. If anything were to happen to you they need to be able to contact someone who has the authority to make immediate life saving/ending decisions on your behalf.

2) Reference. Your financial aid and/or student loan office will contact this person to track you down in the event that you default on you loans. Don't worry... the government will find you if you decide to not repay your Stafford or government loans. They will take it from your paycheck before you can get your hand on it!!

With this known, you can now decide who would be best to list on your application. Good luck in school!

If you still have a relationship with your mother, I would put her name in the application. If she is no longer a part of your life, then the stepmother would make more sense.

Another thought - is this for financial aid? If so, make sure that you don't include someone with a lot of money who won't let you use any of it for your education. For example, if your stepmother has her own kids and the arrangement is that she will pay for them to go to college, but not you, then if she has money, do not put her name on the application. If your mother has money, but has disowned you, then don't use her name. It can only hurt you.

If your mother is still your legal guardian, then put her down. Unless your biological mother loses custody of you, then she's still your legal guardian and the person you should put down.

I would use the person you are living with now.

They may want the information to use in the event of an emergency.

Put your stepmom. She's the one they'll contact if they need something because she's easier to get too. They don't want to pay for overseas calls.

It's like contact information. If something happened to you....the first mom they'd call is the one nearest to you. Then your stepmom would call your mom if it came down to something like medical.
