I don't understand these people. If your tradition is wrong why not change it for the better. You don't see people doing arranged marriages anymore or 30 year old guys dating 14 year old girls so why keep this silly tradition?

Alot of these kids wouldn't be able to afford college without the scholarships provided by these sporting events. Im sure you've paid alot of money towards your alma maters academics.

cambo---spoken like a true moron. Open your eyes, the times are changing. The 2 best teams may be playing for the title but maybe not. You never hear anybody in division II talking about whether the right team got crowned. It is such a cop out to say that it is not all about who wins and loses. All these teams work their butt off and don't even get an equal opportunity. Wake up pal.

I have been saying that ever since this BCS crap came into existence! There should be a 16-team playoff with the eleven conference champions (yes including the lowly Sun Belt champs) and five at-large berths. I support having a playoff much stronger than most people do because I go to a Division II school and in D-II you already have a playoff system established.

Lets face it... college football brings in a lot money to schools and in some situations it funds entire academic programs. Now that we have that straight... the BCS problem is not something that is going to go away any time soon. I think that the only way you can do it is to have an integration of the two formats (playoffs and bcs). My suggestion is to have a six to eight team playoff system where each game would be classified as a bowl game. Sponsors and fans would be pleased alike because of the new revenue and excitement of a real chance to prove their superiority. At the same time the other teams that didn't qualify for the playoffs can still play in the other remaining bowl games. I think if they ran the games into Christmas vacation it would help the students to be able to travel to these games (fans and players) and there would be little disturbance with their studies.

With the integration of the two systems in place they can slowly drift away from the bowl format making the playoff system a smoother transition.
At some point they will probably be down to only a handful of meaningful bowl games outside of the playoffs. That way teams that achieved a top 20 ranking would still have the opportunity to play for something in the post season. The best part of this is that we would have to watch teams with 5 and 6 losses play in some meaningless bowl game in December and the teams that are superior would be rewarded for the great play. Really, does anyone want to see a 6-6 or 7-5 slop team grind out their patheticness in some terrible bowl game?

I'll provide you this instance from the NFL. Last yr Arizona misplaced to New England within the constant season forty seven-7. They received their department with a nine-7 list (slightly 500) and made the playoffs. New England had an eleven-five list, however did not make the playoffs. So, NE's constant season win over Arizona supposed not anything, thereby making the sport meaningless. San Diego made the playoffs with a freaking eight-eight list. How is that this making a choice on a real champion? In tuition, each and every sport is principal seeing that you will not play for the NT with multiple loss. (The infrequent exception being LSU a couple of years in the past). You ought to win each and every sport and only one loss can finish your season. In the NFL you cab have a crap list, however make the playoffs seeing that you received a crap department. It simply is not as definitive as persons might have you ever consider. Didn't New York win the Super Bowl with a ten-6 constant season list? That approach 6 groups beat them that yr. How are they the great if 6 groups would beat them?

its not just about new years day bowl games. im just saying the ncaa has existed for over a hundred20 years and in those 120 years there has been at best 20 times where there was some sort of national championship controversy. i think since the inception of the BCS it has alleviated most of the confusion with the exception of 3 years. the people who are whining for a playoff system act like there is a problem with the system every year when its not and then act like a playoff will fix everything. will it cause more confusion? maybe maybe not? but how do you determine what teams get to go to playoffs? how many teams do you allow in? does each conference get at least one team represented in the playoff? or do some conferences like the sunbelt mountain west and conference usa get shut out? how many weeks does it last? 5-7 weeks like state high school football? 3-4 weeks lke the nfl? do you shorten the teams schedules so you can accomadate the playoff schedule. due you get rid of notre dames schedule and its rivalries and force them to play in a conference? because with a playoff system a lot of non conference rivalries will be lost. i dont think people realize with teams already playing as many as 13 or 14 games to institue a playoff, a fair playoff will add 4-6 more game. not 2 or 3 more games. but 4 to 6 games. there are 119 teams in division 1. out of those 119 teams. can u pick 8, 16, 32 of the most deserving teams without leaving out some teams that couple possibly have a shot at winning the national title?

I dont think that you have given this as much thought as you say you have. First off, I have to get this out of the way, it is obvious that your your team didnt make it and you are bitter about it..now moving on. The regular season is a playoff. The Bowl system is intended to reward teams that have played well the whole year, not the teams who just get hot at the end of the season. If you have a playoff, you completly take the luster out of the entire regular season. It would end up being like NCAA basketball, where 64 teams get in, and then you have a mediocre team getting hot at the end and winning it. The only thing that I am in favor of is a plus one scenerio, Where we have seeds 1 and 4 and 2 and 3 play, and then the winner plays for the championship. You should watch what you ask for, a playoff would ruin college football forever. Besides, don't you think that college athletics should be about more than just crowning a champion? I mean these are kids that we're talking about.

I can't believe these "consevatives" and I use the term loosely. Many people in my community that is very conservative, won't vote for school levies unless sports are threatened. They will ***** about the teachers and unions but they won't show up to parent teacher meetings let alone make sure they do their homework. Now I do believe that sports can be an important part of a well rounded education. Yes, but accademics must get paid for and emphasized first. And winning can't come at the expense of building character.

There is a playoff in all the other divisions, and I feel it's because the major conferences do not want to take the chance of being exposed by a Hawaii, Boise State, etc. in a one-and-done situation. Those ADs and coaches are protecting the vast pool of money that are available for conferences in the title game and BCS bowls....it is greed based on fear.

It's all a matter of money! These big wigs in the BCS know that if they were tossed aside for a college playoff system, they'd be screwed! So would the colleges that go to bowl games. In my lifetime I'll bet my house there will NEVER be a playoff system in NCAA Football

I agree. There should be some kind of playoff format, like in the NFL. The BCS format is really screwed up.
