Short answer YES. It makes sense both geographically and from an educational standpoint. There is also the possibility of joining the Big East but the school's conference play is better suited for the midwestern schools of the Big Ten. Of course when the rich Catholics of South Bend realize that the television contracts and revenue generated from the "touchdown Jesus" atmostphere is not conducive to the overall mission of an educational institution then maybe joining a conference may be the best way of making long term goals and encouraging academic as well as athletic pursuits.

I would love for Notre Dame to join the Big Ten, but with all the $$ they make being independent I don't think it will ever happen. The Big Ten really needs another team to join so that they could have conference championships just like most of the others.

hahahaha..it is very funny how people hear things and run with it about the Big Ten. They have no idea what they are talking about. Wheather the Big ten gets a 12th team or not, they still wouldnt have a championship game. Championship games make no sense, the only reason that half of the major conferences have them is for the revenue. And then a previous poster states, and I quote " if they get a 12th team, they could have a conference championship game and stop sending crappy teams to the National championship game". Are you serious? Ohio State is the only Big Ten team to play in the National title game and are 1-1. Get a clue, stop being a follower and make your own ideas, thanks.
Oh, and as far as your question goes, Notre Dame football will never join a conference, they are too arrogant and think they are too good. If they joined the Big ten, they would have about two conference wins every year. In my mind, it would make sense for them to be in a conference, it would help in recruiting and marketing.

yes I think they should. i mean they already play purdue, michigan, and michigan state every year and last year they also played ohio state. Notre Dame falls in the middle of ten country so i believe they should join. If they do join they will have a better shot at the national tittle because there schedule will be easier. joining the big ten makes a lot of sense if you are a notre dame fan! I dont understand why their basketball team is a part of the big east, but that is a different issue.

No, Notre Dame football should join the same conference that other Notre Dame sports are a part of. Notre Dame is in the Big East conference in every sport except football, lacrosse and ice hockey. If they join any conference, it should be the same, Big East.

They can't unless they become a football-only member of the conference as the rest of Notre Dame's athletics compete as a member of the Big East in every sport except for football, hockey, lacrosse and fencing.

The big 10 (11) needs 1 more team to have a conference championship game but are too scared to actually play one for fear of losing a chance at the title game so it will never happen and Notre Dame doesn't like to share its football revenue with other schools so it would be against it also. I think it would be great but greed gets in the way.

If they ever joined a conference in football, it would either be the Big 10 or the Big East, which they are in in other sports...They play half of the Big 10 every year in football anyway...Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Penn State(most of the time), etc...

No. the more logical destination for Notre Dame is Big East...
cause they've already play basketball in Big East Division..
so why not having both football team and basketball team in Big East..
