My neighbors next door have a lawn company come at 7AM once a week (in the spring and summer ) to cut their lawn. I asked them nicely if they could have them come later in the day because they are waking up my 1 and 2 year old girls very early in the morning. They told me to mind my own business and got very upset. I then called the lawn company and explained the situation and they said the time they cut customer's lawns was totally up to the homeowner. I then called the township to complain and was SHOCKED to find that the code allows contractors to start work at 7AM on Mon - Sat - including lawn companies. It seems there is little I can do - but with my neighbor's house just 10 feet from my house it sure does make it tough. Even with the windows closed the sound of the professional lawn mowers come right through and wake up my babies. What do you think I should do?

Don't know how to fix the sound, so my suggestion is to get a sound machine. I've found one at both CVS and WalMart called "Sound Spa" for about $20. My 1 and 3 year olds go to sleep every night (and nap) listening to "ocean" and it is absolutely wonderful. This can help to neutralize the annoying noises that might wake them up! Goodluck.

It might seem that your neighbors are insensitive to you, but it's hard to cut grass when it gets hot in the later part of the day. They could come early evening, but most companies don't work past 4-5 pm.

If your county ordinances allow it, then there is really not much you can do...unless you can find a way to tactfully negotiate this with your neighbors.

I had a problem with a neighbor and their truck when my son was a baby. He left at 5 am and turning on the truck was very noisy..woke the baby every time. I found that I had to insulate the room better, nothing else was done...then their dog started barking at 12 pm...then my husband went outside and we walked in the street near their bedroom window so the dog would bark on that side of their house.. they got the message and it worked like a charm. They had a small child too, but didn't care about anyone elses. We moved.

You don't mention talking it over with the neighbors themselves - they're the ones that would be able to change the schedule - but I would guess that you have.

If the regulations allow it, and the neighbors aren't willing to change it, there may not be much you can do, aside from talking to a lawyer. Perhaps a politely worded request from a lawyer to the lawn company would have some effect.

LOL.....It's for a few minutes once a week. Get over it! Maybe you should have considered the consequences of moving into a place that was only 10 feet from your neighbors.

Sheesh, dude....It's not your private world. Talk about Selfish!!
I'll bet you complain about the crickets and tree frogs, too.

I'm afraid that the covenant in your neighborhood allows for the grass cutting early and there's probably not much you can do about it. Have you spoken with your neighbor? Might they be willing to change the time they have their grass cut?

Have you tried a white noise machine in your child's room? I used one for my first child and we all loved it so much I have one in every bedroom now. It drowns out alot. We bought an "air purifier" at Walmart for less than $15 and it's noisy enough to help drown out the outside noises, but steady enough to not disturb our sleep. I actually can't sleep without one now.

Good luck. Sorry, I know how annoying that is.
