What about being a retail buyer for a larger retail operation? You would have to know what the trends were likely to be in the upcoming season and figure out how to put together lines which would make sense for your employer's customer. You my need to follow blogs and similar sites so that you could see what people were thinking. You would travel around looking at what various designers were doing so that you could put together a mix of fashions to meet your employer's customer's needs. In the long run, with a little experience, you might choose to use your skills and connections to open up your own shop or to source things for others.
