I wanna buy a TV today but it costs $599 after the mail-in rebate. It costs $899.00 and it said that the mail-in-rebate offer will be sent with the TV when it's delivered to my home. And then I'm supposed to mail it out and get my $300 back. How exactly does that work and is it real or just a scam?

I wouldn't know if your specific offer is a scam, but here are tips to help you out:

buy with a credit card so you have someone to fight for you IF there is a problem

buy through a reputable dealer and manufacturer

KEEP the ad you see now as proof

when you get the TV, make sure it works before "accepting" delivery

locate the rebate immediately and do whatever it takes to comply with all the terms

make a photocopy for your records of everything you do

for $300 you may want to shell out the nearly $6 it will cost you to take the form to the PO and mail it CERTIFIED MAIL, RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED

Allow 8-12 weeks for delivery of your rebate (and that means figure that in for when you pay--if you will carry a balance on a credit card, you may be getting very little as an effective rebate)

Many of them now allow you to track the rebate online if you give them an email address. I recommend having one for those sorts of things, not your personal one you use with friends in case someone is a spammer.

Do all of that and you should get your discount. If not, you will have excellent evidence to fight to get the discount.

From personal experience, I believe:
Ace Hardware
Staples
are the two best retailers for getting rebates on time and without tears. I have had a couple of problems even with them, but normally, no hassles.

Good luck.

Yes Mail in Rebates are not a scam. It will take about 12 weeks for your refund but you will get it if you fill out the paperwork correctly. I've never not had a rebate work.

Yes, make sure you follow the rules, read every line of the fine print. If you fill out anything that is incorrect, they will not pay attention and you will not receive your rebate.

Most of them are real. Just read all the details & find print. Follow the guidelines exactly & if you aren't certain about it being received at the address, send it w/ the green card from the post office so you get a signature & confirmation that it was received. Follow the instructions & they will work.

I have not had good luck with rebates. And when they do come it is months later, if at all.

Yes...Sometimes it takes awhile, though.
You have to mail it in with everything that it asks for...read all the instructions.
