I propose to YA, that they should tell you who reported your question or answer when it is deleted. That way people will think twice before reporting, knowing that they might be the target of the person they just reported. Something tells me it would all but eliminate reports from cowards just because they don't like the question/answer....what do you think?

Mordent: No, it would just make it less likely to be deleted for no good reason....if its a racist question why not let it stand??...let everyone see it and who the idiot is that asked it??...let there be freedom of speech..even if the speaker is a racist..I'd rather see what someone truly believes and let the world see how vacant he truly is.

wider scope: I don't block anyone from my answers and questions..its open to everyone and I'd rather keep it that way...I know there are a few in my contacts that got there under false pretence...I DO believe in free speech...even if I disagree with it....even if its full of vulgarity...I would rather know a persons heart by listening to what they say, then to limit what they say, and never really getting to know whats in their heart...

The very fact that anything said in an open forum is considered a "violation" shows that free speech does not exist. If you do not like what is being said, simply debate it, or move along... Whether a post is racist or not, i will defend the right of the poster to speak thier mind, which is what free speech is all about. LIberals seem to want to pick & choose, which is not free speech at all, but censored speech.

Nay, It is weird though to have questions and answers reported as ...well, whatever they are reported as...." In fact I had one deleted this morning for saying "ouch!" Pretty ridiculous I would say. I think someone just wanted best answer for themselves or something... I only had 3 thumbs up on the deleted answer so I probably wouldn't have received it anyway. Not too big of a deal. There are some people who have followed a couple of Q&A users that I know and constantly give them thumbs down... they must have upset somebody with their thoughts LOL! Oh well I guess it is all just part of Q&A.

I think this is a great idea (probably will get deleted). What is going on with everyone around here! I think that if we are not rude or offensive to any other group that we should be able to express ourselves. Isn't this what YA is about. All my questions last week got reported and I was not being rude, just expressing my personal experiences and what was taking place within my life. This is really turning me off to being on here, that we can't say what we think or feel anymore. I was reported for chatting! I am discouraged because I really enjoy being on here. I can see why some just want to move on to something else. Thank you for letting me vent!

GRWC, if you are getting a lot of violations, take a look at the contacts you have on your board.

There have been many of us that have been 'befriended' by one of a group of libs who once allowed to 'add' us have started with violations a week or, two later.

This is a crafty bunch who email you glowing compliments on your answers, give you a BA or, two and then, begin reporting you and emailing their friends to do the same soon after.

Sad that they have nothing better to do than attempt to control who's in and who's not here at Y!A, but it seems they don't.

So, in short, clear your contacts and block those snide ones you know don't share your beliefs and you'll probably be ok or, at least much better. :o)

EDIT: So be it, old brave one....

YA is more responsible for deleting Q on their own before it is even reported by someone.
YA has their own trolls, and those trolls have their favorites to thumb down or to delete a Q, just because they can.
They do not have to be accountable to us.

I agree. And the reason for the report should be clearly stated. Not just "you violated TOS." It makes everyone personally responsible. It makes it so you are personally accountable for the content in your answer and makes the reporter personally accountable for the validity of the report.

To answer your question;

I think it is a viable option to the current system in place, I would also like to see a 50 point penalty for a false violation report.

Why are you so upset about reporting? I have been reported for virtually nothing in the past and so what? That is how the game is played. Yahoo is a private corporation that can do business as they see fit. You can either play along or not play at all.

Id settle for just making the rules more basic, and stick to enforcing them.

So vigilantism is the answer? So if you report someone for being violently racist - and get your computer hacked by them, that's a good thing?

Not the best of plans to reduce the pettiness is it. The reporting system is flawed, but not having anonymity is definately NOT the answer.
