Does the Salvation Army really only give 25 % of money earned to people that need it. So every dollar you give only a quarter is used to help those in need.

Thats horrible someone please find the truth about this.

since i have personal experience with this, no they are quite dependent on donations and have truoble paying for their own space to do their giving. My son just finished volunteering with the toys for tots and food giveaway, and believe me, these people arent getting rich doing charity work. Salvation Army is one of the truely not for profit orgs that really do desperse the funds they take in.I f you want an example of a charity that is a waste, The UNICEF fund for the United Nations only gives out 10 cents for every dollar it akes in. It keeps and spends 90 cents for its own expenses. It is the worst charity and yet it is pushed on the kids to get donations. save you money fron unicef and give it to the salvation army. The bells ringers do not get paid, they are volunteers, not paid! your other answeres are wrong.
EDIT: the salvation army also donates to other causes in their community if there is money or food left over. they help the local food backs and they help out the local homeless shelters all money is kept where it is collected.

I sure hope not. That is one of the few charities that I do support. They do a lot of good in my area.

I will try to find some answers and post.

Their financial report from 2005 states that 83 cents from every dollar that is spent went towards program services with the remainder going to management and general expense.

WHEW!!! My confidence is still with them.

Thanks, Chris. I have always felt confident on what they do.

There was a report about this about a year ago and 25% sounds about right. 75% was said to be paid in operating cost,

i don't understand why the bell ringers should even be paid, shouldn't it be considered community service to do something like that?
