I used to own real estate in Orlando and it was often said that "Mickey RUNS this town!" in terms of politics and control of power and employment in that city. The company I worked for also lent the first $200 million to build Universal Studios years ago, so the question of "who controls the entertainment market" as it pertains to children (& children of all ages) was one consideration in terms of being able to compete with the Disney giant.

I'm looking at the Christmas Day Parade on TV at Disneyland in California, and it is just amazing to me the gazillions of people they employ and how much of the children's entertainment market they dominate.

And I just wonder...do I accept that EVERYTHING my children are fed visually and intellectually must be DISNEY-FIED before I deem it suitable for intellectual consumption?

You may have personal experience with Disney and the power they wield in all their various markets. This is a question of market control and business concentration

Disney has always been too big and wanted to get bigger. I'm just glad Michael Eisner is no longer in charge. His business ethics sucked but he did make money for his stockholders.

yes disney has gotten too big for it's britches. i love disney but they keep going up on prices and it is getting ridiculus. They are good at marketing though. "a family of 4 for $1600 (Was 1500 last year.) just isnt realistic. It's in a off time and never available. My family of three is going spring break and it's costing us $3100. 600 was the dining plan. Still a far cry from their 1600.

To a point, that all other countries cartoons, are stigmitized by the parenting community as a whole. Of course there is a heck of a lot more violence in those. But lets accept one crazy thing, all companies in the usa do this, and do this well.
