There are a few gay bars in Florence. There is Yag, Crisco, and Tabasco. There are a few other gay areas. It is a fairly liberal city, though like most places the older people frown on pda's in general. The younger people don't seen to pay attention to that though. I was there for a long time, never had a problem (in Florence actually).

In Italy it's very popular and commonly practised the old saying "Vivi e lascia vivere " that's in English "Live and let live". Italian's attitude towards homosexuality is of absolute tolerance unless someone breaks the decency's rules.
Of course also here there are exceptions and a gay or a lesbian might have troubles exactly as hetero, straight people may have everywhere in this world.

Nowadays here in Italy we're quite open-minded and you won't find any problem coming here as a gay.I used to work in a hotel and there were a lot of gay couples but everything went smoothly.Enjoy your time in Italy!
Ciao.

Despite their strong catholic faith very accepting. Though just like everywhere there are some people who don't accept, and a few remote places that you don't want to go. But there shouldn't be a problem.

Unless you're in the liberal section of a large city, keep it on the down low. I don't know firsthand, but they are very Catholic over there, you know?
