in many countries people must still behave their manners or they'll loose their heads.... here in the US we have so much freedom that were allowed to be as rude as we want without risk of death .... i'm not soooo sure if that's a good thing !
nothing is better than a kind person and that's what should be taught above all else

I blame you. It's all your fault. Actually though, people are rude because they are self centered and selfish. They don't care about other people or their feelings, so it doesn't matter to them if you get hurt. They have fun by making other's have a bad day.
In the olden days, a guy might take a certain amount of offense to getting insulted - so much he just might kill you, or at least challenge you to a duel. This led to rules about how to behave in public towards strangers, just to keep the cemeteries from filling up so fast and to prevent the mortician from collapsing with nervous exhaustion.
The real problem is that people these days don't have enough common sense to know they shouldn't p*ss off a stranger who might be mentally ill or carrying a weapon. The fact that kids these days feel free to be as rude as they want to be is either a sign that their parents are too lazy to teach manners, or that it's too safe to be out in public.
Remember, all you bullies out there, someday that wimpy little nerd you just beat up can buy a 12 gage. It doesn't take any courage to pull a trigger. Not that I am advocating euthanasia for the terminally stupid, but these people just have not made the connection between action and consequences.

I blame the media and think it's more possibly modern rap music's fault. Those healthy, rich guys just show off how great their life is, yet they act in such careless manner. It's no wonder kids want to copy them. They think that being like that is going to make people love them in same way they love rappers. And they possibly think good fortune follows that path too. Such brainwash. I wish people could just be good without being laughed at or otherwise considered less worthy. I guess evil is todays fashion.
Edit: Well, on the other hand rap music helps other kids who live on the streets feel better about themselves so it's a good thing too. So I meant only the bad ones.
Is I read some other comments I came to thinking about other things as well. Video games, where the violent ones are usually the good ones (Call of duty, GTA(This one doesn't even have a cause for violence and even promotes it),...). Bad parenting "could" also be the cause (provided thy don't have time) But why in world don't they with all that technology and superb freedom going on? Because we have either "freedom" in limited sense or the one in extended (criminals, monopolists, even little sadistic things count a lot).
To sum it up it our society seems like a typical capitalism it is. Everybody is against everybody unless they can make a profit (of any type) from them.

Parents don't teach children manners anymore, and after they are past a certain age, they don't listen anyway, but rudeness is in all generations. The standards have chaged over the years and parents don't take as much time with their kids as they did when I was growing up. If I was rude in front of my parents or someone told them I had been rude, I got my A*S tore up when I got home.

Yes. Though I am still fairly young.
I think it is a combination of parents not being available for proper upbringing of the child, lowering our standards of behavoir AND public schooling. We also infantalize teens
a great deal, parents give them adult priveledges but still
baby them.
The combinations of these things equal a very entitled, non mature, herdlike, lord of the flies mentality among the youth.
It isnt really their fault, imagine if you were basically raised
by other kids half your child hood.
If you want your children to stand half a chance, first of
all take them OUT of public school, it is nothing but cliques
and herd mentality there. Homeschool or independent study,
Have if possibly one parent home so the child is actually getting parental influence, do not baby them give them priveledge w/o RESPONSIBILITY. Treat them as you would a coworker, or another respected adult. Oh and get rid
of your tv.

Having been a teacher for over 20 years, each generation is different and unique. I don't think one is better or worse than the other, I think each generation adds a new mix to society.

YES!! Some teenagers of this generation seem to have such a sense of entitlement and they don't respect the rights and feelings of others. Don't get me wrong though...there are some very wonderful kids out there. Sadly, just not enough.

Yes, but I believe that is the consequence of a two worker household... These days, it takes both parents working full time in order to survive... The children are either raised by caretakers, or simply raise themselves... Either way, they do not get the same values instilled into them... I wish I could offer a solution, but I cannot...Maybe, eventually, we can get a government in place that can help ordinary people get things back on track..If not, I am afraid it will continue to disintegrate...

Manners are not taught in the home or in school and manners are or the lack of manners is the root cause for rudeness. Yes they are worse now than in my generation.
