Taking Christ out of Christmas. A short cut . I hate it! This is Christmas Day and not Xmas day!

Edit: If it stood for the Cross it would not be on it's side. It would look like this. + sorry but I am still sticking to the shortcut theory!

many believe that placing an x inplace of Christ in the word Christmas is a symbol removing Christ from Christmas...this belief however, is a false assumption...
the X is actually the symbol for Christ in the ancient Greek text, if I remember correctly...so even if you wish someone Merry XMas, you are still keeping Christ in Christmas...

p.s. I used to believe the same way until my pastor spoke on it one Christmas...

The "X" stands for the Greek letter, "Chi". Believe it or not, it has nothing to do with the Christmas tradition at all!

It's the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter in Christos. 'X' has been used as an abbreviation for Christ for many centuries. -yk
