A shot is one that would go in the net and over the goal line if the goalie was not there (regardless of weather he is there or not).

If a shot hits the post and does not go in, it is not counted as a shot. (missed shot)
If for some freaky reason a guy takes a shot that bobbles off his stick and is going towards the net at a super slow rate, and stops before the goal line, that is not counted as a shot. (probably not even a missed shot)?

Or if a shot goes completley wide or high of the goal posts it is not counted as a shot (missed shot)

These answers a kind of on point. But, those little rolling pucks, that end up going towards the net, that the goalie stops, dont count as shots, even though they would go in, if he wasnt there. It has to be shot, directly at the net, with the goalie having to stop it. Goalposts, are not shots. high shots that would be over the net, but the goalie stops it, are not shots either. Hope that helps.

A shot on goal requires a goalie to save it or it will be IN the goal. A missed shot misses the goal entirely.

I'll leave you with a quote from the great one: "You miss 100% of the shots that you don't take." (so keep firing away)

I believe the shot has to be in the zone, but not sure (maybe unless it looks intentional, like, not a dump in but a last minute shot).

I also believe that the puck has to have hit the net. So, if the goalie makes a save but the shot was going to miss, anyways, that would not count as a shot.

Posts do not count as shots, either. It must be a clear shot, at the net, that will go in if not saved.

That is my understanding.

Best definition for "Shot on Goal" is if the goalie was not in the net . Would the Puck go in? If so then it counts as a shot on goal if not then its a missed shot.
