The neolibs seem to have a great fear of the cross. I wonder if they react the same to garlic and wooden stakes.

The problem isn't the bookshelf. The Problem is Huckabee intended to make the bookshelf looks like a cross. The way he set up the lighting and set up the camera shots. And he did it for a political reason. It generated tons of free ad time over christmas when huckabee didn't have the money for ads.
Its the fact he has used his religion as a political trick bothers the heck out of me

Last I heard, it was other Republicans, not Liberals complaining about the Ad. They have reason to be afraid of Huckabee. He seems to think it's on the legit. That could upset a lot of Applecarts.
Huckabee doesn't scare Democratic candidates, he scares Liberal, Moderate, Old School Conservative and Libertarian Voters. The Dems would love nothing better than to make the 2008 Elections a referendum on Fundamentalist Fanaticism and Dominionism.
And that's the game Huckabee wants to play.
If Dems could pick the Republican nominee, it'd be Huckabee. He can't even campaign on Immigration because he's worse than the Liberals on it. He can't campaign on Crime after all those pardons. And he can drag the whole ticket down with him.
Bring him on. We'll see how scary he is.

That's no bookcase. That's a crucifix.
Liberals aren't afraid of Huckabee. We are disgusted that an American would make religion an issue.
It's un-American.

The whole bookcase thing is blown out of proportion. Huckabee was talking about celebrating the birth of Christ, so even if the book case was supposed to look like a cross it still is not a subliminal message because he was indeed talking about Christ directly.

Some are annoyed with what they see as his crass and transparent use of his religion to win votes. The bookcase thing raises eyebrows because: It's hard to imagine that a major campaign ad from a guy with limited remaining funds is going to be anything but extremely meticulous and careful; it's hard to believe that the "cross" was overlooked in production, even if it wasn't intentional.
I personally don't care. I see Huckabee as funny, fairly likeable, and morally repugnant (his views on school prayer, choice, homosexuality and evolution are, at best, intolerant and short-sighted). But I am hardly afraid of this issues-bereft, moral majority shill. Many liberals would salivate with excitement if Huckabee won the nomination.

Because Huckabee's son hung a dog at boyscout camp then gutted the poor thing with his boyscout knife. Governor Huckabee fired the cop in order to keep it quite. Well lets see, should we make Mike our new President? What do you think? Does he have the type of character we need right now?

It's not just so called "Liberals" it's anyone who cares about the principal of Separation of Church and State" within our constitution. They are concerned because to quote Sinclair Lewis . ."When Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in a flag carrying a cross"
Huckabee is quite coy about the whole incident by calling it a random event when actually the whole bookcase thing was a planned prop and everyone knows it. This type of thing will eventually come back during the general election and bite Mr Huckabee and people like you in the ***.

Huckabee is a good chose for becoming president, but so are most of the other republican nominees. Its my opinion that the democrats may secretly hold the belief that Huckabee can be easily beat in a general election. The louder they complain in their very imaginative minds, the more influence they think they have in shaping the republican choice in the primaries. I say that they are not in touch with the pulse of America and no matter who the republican’s nominate is, the democrats are sure to loose. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
Merry Christmas
P.S. I like MIT… but will vote for whomever the republicans pick.

Liberals believe that there should be no public display of religion. Christianity offends them. They believe in a separation of church and state, even though it is not in the Constitution. If something, like Christianity, is done that offends them, they must stop it. They fail to grasp that we have freedom of religion and Huckabee is welcomed to share his religion if he desires. They in turn have the right not to vote for him. The federal government cannot establish a national religion and Huckabee is not advocating that.
A cross is the most obvious symbol of Christianity.
BTW, I am not a Huckabee supporter.

The shaking Liberals you associate with are sure different than the Liberals in my tiny farm town.
Nobody here cares about Huck's books. They are trying to figure out how to get Fred (State's Rights) Thompson & Bill (son of a Diplomat)Richards on the same ticket.
