I got an i/o Magic dvd burner for Christmas for reason it loads in to he the computer but it wont open or stay

i just cant get it to open

it is external Im anidiot I tried everything but the install disc because t said i have windows xp and didnt have to now how do I start all over?

Is this an internal drive or external drive?

Make sure you have correctly installed the hardware and properly connected the power cable and IDE cable.

burn dvd?i use the software of Wondershare Pocket DVD Ripper download at http://www.welldownload.com/dvd-converter.html .it works really well.
