I love the sound of it; it's a beautiful name! The only problem I have with it is that it's so, so incredibly popular now that Isabella will probably be one of at least ten others in her class growing up lol (think of her being referred to as Isabella D. or whatever, along with Isabella A, Isabel R, Isabella G, etc).
Maybe you guys could try other variations of Isabella? Isobel, Isolde, Isadora, Isaura, etc. One thing I definitely wouldn't do though is try and change the spelling to anything too crazy lol - Isabella is absolutely gorgeous and elegant as it is, Izybela (or something like that) is kind of ugly lol.
Or try www.nymbler.com - type in names you guys already like, like Isabella, and up will come tons of names that should be similar in style. For example, Isla (pronounced Eye-luh), Marina, Emilia, Gisela, Annabel, Olivia, etc.
Good luck and congrats on the baby cousin!

It's a fine name. In fact, nearly 18,000 parents agreed last year alone. LOL That's how many little Isabellas -- not including Isobel/Isabel(le) and other spellings -- were born in 2006 (fourth most common name in the entire nation). So far too popular for my taste, but still a solid classic choice, if that's what you want.
Ps. It certainly does NOT mean "beautiful" and such, as inaccurately mentioned above. LOL Isabella is generally considered a form of Elizabeth. Simply BELLA is the literal -- and overused -- Italian word for "beautiful." Just wanted to clear that up. ;)

I may be the odd one out, but my parents almost named me Isabella and I am SO glad they didnt. A life time of Izzy or Bella would have made me sick. Queen Isabella of Spain.
I just have never seen the attraction in the name. I could handle Gabriella better. Sorry.

What I always recommend to people is to be very aware of what nick-names will be derived from a baby's name. What will they call Isabella for short? Izzy? Bella? I don't like those nick names. A friend named her daughter Gabriella which is a pretty name but everyone calls her Gab which I do not like.
Merry Christmas!
