"LIFE IN THE MIDDLE AGES"

When did the day
of my youth fade away
with its hearty young snap and its zing?

In a flash, it all went
now, my body is spent
and I can't seem to manage a thing!

Just a short time ago,
like the "star" of the show,
I could haul my own weight on a jog,

but as quick as a wink,
I now grimace to think
that I have all the zip of a log!

Perception of time
can be oddly sublime
when it comes to the process of "age",

and when looking behind,
the majority find
that those "twinges" were just the first stage!

I will fill up my jigger
when afternoon rigor
sets in for the rest of the day,

and I'll drink to the pain
from the earlier strain
that came on in a fleeting foray.

As I noticed around,
I found something profound
That presented an ironic riddle:

When we enter the stage
of that oncoming age,
why does it appear on "OUR" middle?

That was very good and funny to boot! Our "get up and go", got up and went a long time ago lol and whoever is that old, wrinkly looking woman staring back at me in the mirror? I have been a steady 7 and a half stone all my adult years but since hitting 50 (not got used to that number yet and I'll be 51 next month!!) I have been piling the pounds on to where I have put on a stone this year! The only time I've ever put weight on was twice with pregnancies. My middle-age spread is not just a spare tyre....it's a full set!!

It just appears in the 'middle'
as we play well the fiddle
there is no reason to be sad
midle age ain't too bad

We are here with our skills
we are here with our thought
we are here to share the knowledge
the present world forgot
