I am in real trouble. I used my wife's favorite coffee cup (really a plastic 12 ounce beer stein) to soak some dirty flatware over night in a detergent solution and now even though we have washed it in the dishwasher she still tastes the detergent.

Distilled vinegar poured over a few tablespoons of baking soda. Do over the sink as it will volcano out of the mug. Let stand, rinse in hot water. Air dry. If still present, use lemon or lime juice.
Merry Christmas.

put 1 tablespoon baking soda into cup and top off with warm or hot water. Another solution is to put 2 tablespoons white vinegar into the cup and top off with water. She could also pour in 2 TBSP table salt and fill with hot water. Do one of these over night to kill the funk. I have had to clean out many coffee cups and thermos' to rid them of the coffee, tea or chocolate taste.

Vinegar or baking soda are great choices. Or just buy her a new coffee mug that is not plastic. I would never drink coffee out of a plastic mug.
