i would like to add a second p.c to our home our internet is cable, can i just split the cable or do i need a router?

As already mentioned, a router is the best option. It also allows you to use the cable connection as one computer. So the cable company won't charge you for adding anymore computers. You add the router between the cable modem and the computers.

A router would be the easiest and most effective way to share your Internet connection. Walmart and the electronic stores sell routers for around $60.

If your computers dont need a LAN connection: i suggest to buy a router to share internet connection among the insisting computer through wireless.U need to buy wireless router and the wireless adapters to each computer.If both router and adapters are of same company,its besto work on. But if you want LAN connection within computers and the internetconnection to all... go for wireless LAN routers. It will bring LAN connection among ur computers as well as internet connection to all... all the best.

Install a router. They are reasonably cheap and easy to install.
