Just wondering. I could never do it because I'd end up getting caught.

No, there's nothing wrong with doing that. What would be wrong is to let it sit unused for years or just throw it away. It is a gift - it is given to you to use in whatever way you wish.
I don't do it often, most gift givers know me well enough to not buy something inappropriate

I try not to re-gift unless its somebody am not close with and I don't really like the gift but I still find it hard to re-gift. But I guess its better then to let a gift go to waste. just make sure you don't re-gift to the person who gave it to you.lol

It's not wrong. It was given to you, and now you may do with it what you will. I think I'd give it to somebody who is very unlikely to run into the person who gave it to you. That could be embarrassing.

LOL, no. we do it all the time. like for example, yesterday our neighbors gave us a box of chocolates, but we gave them to my aunt instead of keeping them. it's fine unless it's something personal, like a pair of shoes that are size 6 or something like that. Merry Christmas!

As long as it's not opened or used, I don't see a problem. Just don't give it back to the person or persons who gave it to you.
