NOT A GOOD IDEA! YES, IT WOULD CATCH FIRE!!! NO, I HAVEN'T!

It makes a mess, and ruins the toaster. And although, depending on how much butter you use, it is unlikely to catch fire it is a possibility.

I have done that. It did not catch fire, but the butter drippings eventually ruined the toaster.

Not a good idea...at the very least,the butter will melt and your toaster will smoke and stink.

i don't think it's a good idea - it could burn, and it wouldn't be very nice anyway as the butter would melt
