What is it an audition for and who is running it? That is very important information. Most people have a space or rent a space to run auditions out of. Professional projects rarely use a private address. But if you are auditioning for a local play and they just don't have the budget for audition space rental than that is a possibility. But if the claim to be casting for a major project and then have you audition at someone's house you can safely assume that something is not right.

Ask them if it is OK if you bring someone with you. If they so no, DON"T GO. There are absolutely experiences out there of people being lulled into an "audition " that turned out to be something completely different then what they expected.

Research a bit about who is holding the auditions, take the proper precautions to protect yourself and just make really smart choices about how you proceed and then break a leg!

Sometimes. It depends on the company. I had to go to someone's house for a scholarship audition once. But all of my theatre auditions have been at a church, a school, or a theatre. If you don't know the people involved, you'd better check this out ahead of time. And bring a friend along. Don't go alone!

No, it is not usual. Make sure you have someone go with you at least until you know its safe.

It may be innocent enough but you need to be careful it today's world.

Definitely not, and if the performing bug has such a grip on you that you can't turn it down, take a friend with you.
