I belonged to the Mouseketeers fan club. I always got information on where Annette Funicello and all of them would be appearing.

I was a member of the David Essex fan club in the early 70's and it was worthwhile....posters, booklets, badges, dates for concerts, and my best friend at that time belonged to the David Cassidy club. We used to have competitions with each other to see who would get a repy from our clubs the quickest, what goodies we got etc lmao.
For the person who belonged to the Madness fan club.....I worked in a Hotel in Bridlington in 1980 and Madness were appearing at the Spa Complex. Madness, their entourage of bouncers, roadies etc and their support band, The Go-Go's were thrown out of the hotel they were booked to stay in for the week and the place where I worked was the only hotel that would accept them lol.....there weren't many other guests at the hotel at that time.....a couple of people left and booked into other places because of them! They were awful to serve meals to, they were rude, threw food around the resteraunt, and, living up to their rock star image they trashed their rooms! They didn't leave a very good tip either lol.

I never joined a fan club, but I sent for a few movie star photos in the 40's. I still have them. In those days of long ago we were so young and believed everything written about the stars printed in Photoplay and other movie magazines. They only wrote nice things about actors.

I belonged to the Bobby Sherman fan club and the David Cassidy fan club
Don't remember any great perks to being a member except that you got info on where their next concert was going to be -- useless info to me since I couldn't go anyway

I sent in something from Grit newspaper to join a Roy Rogers fan club in 1949, 1950. They sent me back a picture of him and Trigger. Nothing else ever came of it.
Around that time I also sent in something to a man named Charles Atlas, might have been a fan club. He promised in the ad to make me the kind of guy people wouldn't kick sand in the face of and girls would admire something awful.
I got a lot of mail from Charles for a lot of years after, raising the ante on all he could do for me if I would take advantage of his special offers to teach me about 'Dynamic Tension'. Always sent me lots of photos of himself flexing his muscles.
Eventually Charles lost interest because I didn't have any money to send him.

When I was fourteen most of the girls I knew had their favorites. Some joined fan clubs. I never got farther than putting up a couple of pictures on the wall of Audie Murphy. Yes, Audie Murphy. No accounting for tastes of fourteen year old girls!!!

I was a "member" of clubs, but they weren't exactly "fan" clubs. I remember joining "organizations" sponsoring Captain Midnight and Sgt Preston of the Yukon. If fact, if I could find it, I still own one square inch of land in the Klondike!
