It should have more importance, because you aren't this:
your legs + your arms + your head + your face + your organs + your butt + etc
You are:
the contents of your mind (or soul, depending on your belief system)
Still, there does need to be a (preferably healthy) body to host and serve the mind, so physical hygiene remains important, just (in my opinion) not quite as important as mental and spiritual.
This may depend upon personal preference, though. Some people do place a great deal of importance on their bodies...

Err what? No I really do not like the use of the word hygiene for mental well being and spirituality. I think they are part of HEALTH not Hygiene.
Additional
What is it with you people? Why have I been given thumbs down? What is remotely wrong or bad about what I have said? Good god you people are so grumpy and mean spirited. You shouldn't give thumbs down so readily... think about karma.... and where is the Christmas spirit? Good will to all men (That should include women!!!)
Looks like anyone who didn't AGREE with what you said has been given thumbs down. Well WHY bother ASKING the question and asking for opinions if all you were ever intending to do was dismiss any reply that didn't say how wise and wonderfully insightful you are? I am not going to AGREE to some questions if I don't think its correct. If that means I then get thumbs down all round, too bad. But I am suggesting you think about WHY you asked the question if you only wanted people to AGREE with you?

No because mental and spiritual hygiene is subjective. Something clean and natural to one person may seem dirty to another because of gender, orientation, culture, religion, upbringing or other factors. Physical hygiene is universally advisable. Clean is clean.

Yes, I agree with you, and I've found that the only thing that is able to clean my mental and spiritual life is the Christ Jesus. The Son of God. Anything short of that just leaves the spirit as muddy as the water is.

Hello,
(ANS) Please define what mental or spiritual hygiene is?? as I fail to understand your question.
**The concept of mental hygiene is a very odd one in my opinion & has overtones of George Orwells 1984??, I would say the same for Spiritual Hygiene.
**Please tell me how I can clean my brain or spirit?? this makes no rational sense to me at all frankly.
**Washing or cleaning the physical body I can completely understand but not washing the mind or spirit!!

To say the least...it would be ideal to give more importance to the Spiritual and Mental parts though.
Good luck!

The question implies that there is some sort of mental or spiritual state that is clean and acceptable and some other state that is not. How dare you be so presumptuous about the sanctity of another person's thoughts or beliefs or lack of beliefs. There have been despots in history who thought along similar lines to you. They too had a solution for what they perceived as 'impurities'. Let's hope the thought police don't come looking for YOU someday.

Absolutely!! Even more so, because physical health can also be affected by mental and spiritual health.

Yes and I agree with many of the other answerers.. The mind and spirit ( even if you don't think you have one ) affects everything else. Be a kind spirit and cultivate your garden.
