I read on a site that made really interesting points about this question.
"Logically speaking, it should be the other way around. Alcohol tends to make many people aggressive, leading to a variety of violent crimes, while marijuana does not. Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant, and leads to a serious loss of
coordination and motor skills. At larger doses, alcohol renders one completely unconscious. Drunk drivers cause enormous numbers of automobile accidents and deaths. Marijuana is not a central nervous system depressant, and while one probably shouldn't drive while intoxicated on anything, it simply does not cause anywhere near the loss of motor control that alcohol does, and is only a fraction as dangerous as alcohol in terms of driving. And, a large enough dose of alcohol can and will kill you, while the same is not true of marijuana."
Your thoughts?

It has to do with taxation, young sir/madam. There is already a system in place to tax alcohol. Taxing marijuana would create such a change in the system of monies that anarchy might result. It has nothing to do with the effect on the human body, but everything to do with the flow of currency. Thank you for asking.

From my understanding, in the USA, these rules where decided by religious groups. Christianity itself was to blame in part for advocating alcohol consumption in the for of wine. And in doing so help to generate a world wide drinking problem. This(not wanting to make the this mistake again), I believe to be part of their reason for their strong stance against any other habitually addictive substance.
P.S.Long term abuse of Marijuana has lead to deaths as well; a man in the UK this year died from this & it says so on his death certificate.

marijuana is perfectly legal - in India.
A little morning cup of bhang lasse and you are good to go!
Marijuana in India and alcohol in the US and Russia are examples of mood altering substances that are wide spread in the culture for hundreds of years. Prohibition caused a backlash in the US. Try banning mj in India, or chewing coca leaves in south america, or betel nuts in some pacific rim areas. Or tobacco.
Cultural acceptance is your answer.

Becaues everyone acts funny on marajuana and you know it, while everyone acts funny while your drunk and your completely oblivious.. make sense.. a little? I understand it is definitally more dangerous to drink than smoke, but if you were to compare the two, HEAVY drinking and HEAVY smoking, one you would pass out; the other you would most likely end up sitting in the car, trying to figure out how to turn it on, forget you were supposed to be turning it on then say forget it and get a beer.

Well I agree with you there, but alcohol is already legal, and marijuana is not. Try making alcohol illegal, ever heard of the prohibition? Didn't work out too well. Just because one of the two evils is legal does not justify making both of them legal.

I don't smoke, but I agree.
I'd feel safer with a smoker than I would with a drinker, especially in a car!
A drunk driver can kill you.
A smoker? IF you can get him behind the wheel (not likely),
they'd probably get a ticket for going too slow!
