a dog or cat can be understood if its kept as pet. But some people keep goat as pet. Why?

I don't see any point in keeping goat as pet because goat is completely brainless and useless.

No it's not. They mow your lawn for free. They like attention just like any other domestic animal. Plus they come in many varieties from your classic farm goat, to your itty bitty pygmy goat. They're actually quite sweet, gentle animals.

They're very smart acutally. Lots of people keep livestock as individual pets.

Chickens, donkeys, horses, geese, ducks, cows, goats, sheep--every one can be a pet if the person wants to keep one as such. Each animal also has a brain and can use it. Denying that won't change the facts.

Goats give milk, they are gregarious (accept people as play partners), can cut a lawn better than a mower, and do make for some interesting companions.

Goats make fantastic pets! Many are taught to pull carts or to carry a pack! I knew of two goats that were so loved by their owners that when the town decided to change zoning and not grandfather in any livestock they moved 3 states away, just to keep their pets.
I could give you names of thousands of people who keep and love goats, not just for milk or meat, but also as pets. We even have a club here for people who own pet goats!
Having a couple of goats for pets makes more sense than having many other kinds of pets! But I will say that it takes a cultivated mind to be able to appreciate goats.

they make great cute pets, I used to have goats and they bond with you just like dogs do and come to you and follow you around and play with you. I don't consider them brainless, if they were they wouldn't be alive. I used to take my goat with me in my car and she behaved herself very well.

they are clean when they poop too. and will eat the weeds that you don't like and funny to watch when they play with each other. easy to keep, only need minimal care medically speaking.

I agree with all the other answers.

Also, sometimes people like to have unusual pets. I've been begging for them for ages; from ferrets to sugar gliders to hedgehogs. It's a challenge caring for a pet no one else has, and they can be both educational and entertaining.

It's good for keeping the lawn short.
