i do not see the logic of buying an SUV instead of a 4 door sedan. SUV's have poor fuel economy, are harder to park or maneuver in tight spaces, and have a very high tendency to rollover in a crash compared to the roll over probability of 4 door sedan.

They block the view of a person in sedan who is trying to back out of a parking space located at the side of the SUV spot.

And in many cases they will exceed the price of a 4 door sedan and have less features/luxury than sedan. And they also cause more environmental damage than sedan because the SUV tailpipes emit way more smoke and air damaging particles.

Even if the 4 door sedan costs more, it is worth it. It has better acceleration and easier to handle than SUV.

because the floor chassis of the suv (the hardest part of the car) is at the same height as your head would be in a sedan...so your head is like a crumple zone for the SUV...starting to see my point?sedans don't stand a chance against suv in head on colisoin never mind side impact!

People have money, people buy what they want. You can go have a cry about it. But is not going to change anything...I don't like Suv at all my parents drive them...but this is how it is.

And don't talk about environment...geesh If i wanted something environmentally friendly i would have bought a Koenigsegg CCXR....that's 1016 Horsepower and 250MPH but it runs on E85 Ethanol fuel so technically is a green car....is fantastic...we should buy Al Gore one...it will shut him up.

head on collision between SUV and car? why would that ever happen if you're not a poor driver or drunk driver?

SUV doesn't give you the license to jump red lights, use shoulders to pass and drive like a spoiled brat.... but thats how i see SUV conduct of those who drive them.

The safety is just an illusion. many 4 door sedans get 5 star safety crash testing by government and are equipped with advanced airbags. Rollover is the most dangerous of all.

If a high speed collision occurs the SUV will ABSOLUTELY FLIP -- thats physics.

The force of impact will cause the SUV to bounce a little bit or tremble slightly, and that will result in rollover.

Its your choice. And the other asker who said people have money.... every SUV that exists, there is a 4 door sedan out there to match its price and features.

And nowadays many sedans have all wheel drive systems too.

It comes down to environmental damage and consumption of natural resources -- and thats where SUV sucks.

I'm not saying SUV's aren't good. They're very nice vehicles.

But if a high speed crash is to occur, the SUV driver is also not as safe as he may think he is. He too is likely to suffer massive injuries.

Most 4 door sedan cars today cannot tow anything. And by the way my jeep gets excellent gas mileage for an SUV (22city/24 highway).

If you don't like SUV's or pickups don't buy one. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean everyone should not drive one just because of your stupidity in owning a POS car.

Its the preference to the buyer on what he or she decides to drive. Most new cars are far from comfortable. I know I bought a 2006 chevy cobalt thinking it would save me money, it hasn't, its in and out of the shop more than its driven. My jeep is far more reliable than the cobalt, that's why in January I'm getting rid of my car and buying a 2008 Toyota Tundra.

Most new SUV's and trucks are more luxurious than an $80,000 luxury car and cost far less than a luxury car.

I love my Jeep and I love my truck, and I'll take both of them anyday over a so called luxury car.

Since your an environmentalist you must have a reason as to why its so damn cold here in the winter too, since this global warming problem is so bad, why is it so cold.

If you would learn how to drive you wouldn't have problems backing out of a parking space.

Some mentionings above about SUV's in the snow that are sliding off the road or rolling over are usually city people that don't have a clue how to drive, either that or they're from California and can't drive worth crap anyhow.

On a side note, the luggage racks on top of your SUV are not skiis, so flipping your SUV over and trying to run on those luggage racks will not work.

I love the winter months, I make tons of money pulling people out of ditches with my SUV. Most of the time its someone with California plates on their vehicle too. Funny how that happens.

Honda Civic easily is the best small car. If you need a bigger sedan, the Ford Fusion can be had for well below $20000 and so far looks promising. Ford does not have a long standing history of reliability and resale values, but this is one of their better efforts in some time. An Accord or Camry would be better overall choices, but will surely cost more. Consumer Reports just put out their yearly car buying guide (April 2007 magazine) and it is very informative and inexpensive.

I think people feel more secure in a big, bad SUV. Look at all the ads showing the dainty little lady confronted with landslides, logs falling off trucks, deep snowdrifts, etc. just shoving her SUV into four wheel drive and going off road to avoid the hazard. It ain't necessarily so. Next time you're out on an icy road, notice the SUVs that are upside down in the ditches. Folks think four wheel drive equals being able to defy the laws of physics. When a four wheel drive starts to slide, once one wheel finds a grip, a spin and a wreck is almost inevitable.

Why Buy An Suv

I can quickly ascertain that all of your driving is on PAVED roads, that may be fine where you live but even America has tens of thousands of dirt roads and trails that require 4 wheel drive especially in winter or in rain. That is why I own a sedan and a SUV. I have OFTEN used my 4 wheel drive SUV to pull my sadan out when I got stuck trying to drive it where I should have been driving my SUV.

Actually it depends on WHY a person needs an SUV...I am a traveler professionally, an SUV fits my needs better than a car and trailer! I also have family members w/ several kids that can't fit into a sedan w/ car/booster seats.
