I recently answered a question - on a subject I know quite a lot about - by telling the poster that no-one could sensibly answer her question without more facts. She responed by sending me a nasty email - to which I couldn't reply since she's blocked emails. Why are so many people online such cowards that they feel free to make ad hominem attacks on people who're trying to help, and then hide behind Yahoos mail blocks ?

It behooves every man to remember that the work of the critic is of altogether secondary importance, and that in the end, progress is accomplished by the man who does things.

I don't accept E-mails and never have from anyone one reason for this is the large large number of mindless and virulent ad hominem attacks on YA. The other reason is I'm afraid I spend too much time on YA when I have other things to do and answering E-mails from people who only want to vent their spleen all over me is not my idea of a good use of time.
I hope that I don't make ad hominem attacks though I admit some of my answers can be a little sharp but polite I hope.

A lot of good points by previous answerers. Just one more thing left: most groups and forums I've frequented previously, at some point had a mental problems discussion - and a lot, a lot of posters talked about their bipolar disorder, OCD, etc. (The first time I saw that I was surprised.) Now, I know that it's just anecdotal evidence and doesn't prove much, but I venture a guess that some people on Yahoo! Answers are likewise mentally disturbed...

PS- really, why don't you post her ID for all to enjoy?

It's the anonymity Rick. I have had people in chat and on blogs, personally attack me, because my opinion was different than theirs.
Some have used language I doubt they would use, if we were toe to toe, If you know what I mean.
I am currently having an exchange of ideas about the 9/11 attacks with a Britt. So far, we have agreed to disagree. Civilly I might add.
Just ignore the jerks. I do.

People on here don't always want to hear the truth or refute the truth if it goes against beliefs or ideals. Same way why some questions are chosen by the asker. Yep, people can be really ignorant on here asking questions but at the same time don't like retaliation.

Some people are just not as open to criticism as others are. I wouldn't care if you sent me a response like that, the object of Yahoo Answer is to get other people OPINIONS. I would post the E-mail and ask who know this person with this ID..Now that would be funny!

I got reported to Yahoo for advising a questioner that his question could not be understood as posted. It was a "collection" of letters that did not spell any words that I am aware of. I appealed the report and was told by the Yahoo "gods" that I "indeed" did not answer the question so was in violation of the Community Guidelines.

Many here have already posted valid points but I would ask you to remember one more. You don't know the real identity of the poster, You said she! What if its a 12 year old girl? Wouldn't it make sense?

I don't know, I was thinking about that yesterday when I attempted to answer a question in a similar situation. I believe some people just have nothing better to do than mess with us and get us angry at them. Anyway your question is just like asking why Bush is so tupid, he just is. So why are these people *******? Honey, they just are...

yup, i hate that too.

might not have been intentional tho. but don't u wish you could have responded to her email?

it's very frustrating when someone asks: can u help? and very sketchy details.

i say they're guilty of not asking a decent answerable question, and we should throw the book at em.

and btw, my email isn't blocked so if anyone doesn't agree and they want to mail, they can, but i still don't have to answer. or you could be just spam to me, and go right into my del folder.
