I don't know about fake, but I have friends who are not very intellectual. Since I am usually a very logic minded person, I always feel a bit odd around them because I basically have to lower my intellect.

For what it's worth, I'm not saying they aren't smart. It's just that they would rather talk about things like cars, beer, sports, and other similar topics. And when they do get into something political, their views are based more on what applies directly to them rather than any kind of big picture. For example, on the issue of gun control, their mind set is basically, "I have a gun and no one's going to take it away".

Sometimes in business, society, or family, you have to watch what you say. You don't want everyone to know your business or what you're thinking.or perhaps what you're doing. Keep your personal business to yourself. . .only very good friends should know more about you than the average person on the street. The need to disclose every aspect of your life in places and to people that disagree is just a waste of time to everyone involved and fairly strange to me. If you have something that is important for you to disclose to your friends, you need to pick your time and place-not Christmas eve-and let the cat out of the bag gently.

I'm a paranoid schizo and my real shows pretty much all the time. All my friends know my real, not that they like it though, they are intent on changing my "Real". Which has yet to take place.

If you have to be "pretentious" around your "so-called" friends, I've got news for you. They were never your "friends" to begin with. True friends don't expect you to "appease" them with pretentiousness. They're phony. I think it's time to look for some new friends.

They are afraid that if they be themselves, no one will like them.
