I was down with the flu yesterday, all depressed with nothing to do. I put some music on but it did no good until some songs of Metallica started playing. It was like an energy boost all of a sudden! Then, I remember the time I was having a tough time in my last job. I came home and put some Iron Maiden tapes, and gradually started feeling better...!

Is everything ok with you if you feel better after hearing the metal sound, the same sound that many other people find annoying?

Of course everything is ok. Metal is great for boosting energy and for releasing it. The fact that many other people find metal "annoying" does not make the genre invalid nor does it make its listeners "abnormal". Metal music is just one style in a long list of musical styles; the fact that it invokes an emotional response is proof enough of its effectiveness as a valid form of artistic and intellectual expression.

that's very normal I get the same feeling, When I m feeling a little down I put on the master of puppets solo or the call of katulu and it makes me feel better again! Not only metallica but Pantera really get me going just listening to walk, that song was the first song that inspired me to shave my head! I know that sounds silly but I was so pumped up me and my friend were playing along on our guitars and I'm like I want an undercut like Phil. Metal is good for the soul. Get into some motorhead lemmy IS GOD!

Thats one form of classic rock. My favorites were people like Van Halen, Scorpions, Night Ranger, Led Zeppelin, Ted Nugent, White Cross, Stryper. I was never into Iron Maiden or Metallica.
I like the music format, but the lyrics are often on the dark side. One reason I like the music is I used to play guitar and am amazed by the virtuosity of the guitarists.

I must say that the heavier type of Rock / Metal has a distinct soothing effect on me when i have had a 'down' day. Im not an aggressive personality by nature - and i figure its just a meduim to help me to vent. Hearing the metal sound - the anger - the passion - the emotion - the aggression... gets it out of my system and i end up calm. Music is my saviour :) Rock on

the fact of the matter is that you are not these "other" people who find metal annoying
in fact, it seems like you are a big fan of heavy metal
this is also similar to myself in that every time i feel down in the dumps, i watch a few clips of my Iron Maiden DVDs and i feel uplifted afterwards
ur different from the people who dislike metal but different is good

omg thats kinda what happend to me. about 4 years ago i was 11 and i was at home bored. so i listened to Metallica and i realised i hated it. but a couple of days later i couldnt get Metallica out of my head, so i continued to listen to them. They were (and i guess still are) one of my favourite bands today. Thanks to them i've found more bands that i never thought i would love (like Trivium, Children Of Bodom, Arch Enemy, etc). They even inspired me to pick up the guitar!

Trust me, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I know what you mean by the whole "other people find it annoying" thing. My friends can't understand why i listen to it, they call it **** etc. While they listen to their techno stuff, i can't help but think what their missing out on..

Dude, congrats, you've joined the legions of other metalheads who enjoy rocking out to the likes of Metallica and Maiden. To answer your question, not only is it okay to enjoy it, it is okay to blast right in the people who dislike it's ears.

Yea, I feel the same way. Everyone has their own taste. My family has been wanting to listen to Christmas music lately, and it has been making me sick. I had to whip out my iPod after dinner just to make myself feel alright. Your normal dude, at least normal for someone who likes metal.

Hey, man, whatever works for you. Music is music and there isn't a damn thing anybody else can say to define your tastes or methods of getting better.

Oh yes...I listen to Pantera in the car before work...just so I can remember my true calling before I clock in to become a cublicle drone for the day.
