After WWI England carved up the Middle East putting tribal enemies together and splitting naitons apart making the mess it is today. Example: There used to be a Kurdistan - where the Kurds lived but England gave a chunk of Kurdistan to Turkey and stuck a piece on what became Iraq etc etc and the Kurds have been fighting to get their country back since. What is now Kuwait was once part of what we call Iraq which is why Saddam wanted it back.
We have been fiddling with the Middle East, not understanding the language, the people, their culture or customs since the Crusades and now they've had enough and want us out of their hair.

I can't blame them.

It was a mandate put forth by the "League of Nations." In some fashion this proceeded what was later to become the "United Nations," whose purpose is to preserve world peace, and promote humanitarian efforts where ever the poorer nations of the planet lack the essentials for their overall health and well being.
