Because that's how you cure plants before you smoke them. Your daddy doesn't want to waste anything. I think that's admirable.

A lot of people are starting to do that now. I personally think it's
fu cking stupid, but some people like it. Ask him if ya gotta open your present sitting upside down too. Just start doing everything in your life backwards and when your daddy asks you why you are doing that. Blame him for putting the tree upside down.

Simple logic really.
By hanging the tree upside down it leaves more room for presents.

Maybe you have little space for it in the room, and that way it uses up less (in the area where actually you walk etc). No other idea, but this is a little strange.
