hmmm, everyones tastes will differ. but i love to read and will read just about anything. a brief list below of my favorite can't put down books and some are also books i have kept and read again and again over the years

The Hot Zone (Richard Preston) - scary, true story
The Cobra Event (Richard Preston) - scary, fiction
The Mummy or Ramses the Damned (Ann Rice) - sexy
The Association (Bently Little) - creepy
The Codex (Douglas Preston) - fast paced adventure
A Fine Dark Line (Joe Lansdale) - late 50's American culture
Memoirs of a Geisha (Arthur Golden) - Japanese culture
The Hundred Secret Senses (Amy Tan) - Chinese culture
The Bone Cutters Daughter (Amy Tan) - Chinese culture

that's just a few off the top of my head considering i have read easily over a thousand books in my lifetime. i do have some favorite authors and their names are repeated and they have more than those listed. when i say scary i do not mean horror like steven king, just read The Hot Zone and you'll know what i mean.

reliable bedtime reading: J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit and his trilogy. (I've read probably 40 or more times since childhood.)

favorite childrens authors that i've read with my children when they were growing up:

C.S. Lewis
Meg Cabot
Ann Brashares
Clive Barker
Louise Rennison
Susan Cooper
J.K. Rowling
Madeleine L'Engle
Roald Dahl (sp?)

and... if you are not wanting to spend a fortune and are stateside... might i suggest a trip to Big Lots and Dollar General where you can pick up overstock books for $1. many books i picked up were so good they were made into movies.

p.s. i must say that this has to be my number one favorite answer i have given on yahoo answers!!!

I love to read. My favorite authors at the moment are Dean Koontz and John Grisham, for similar reasons. Both make streamlined use of the language through ease of reading. I'm reading The Husband and Odd Thomas, both by Koontz and The Summons by Grisham. Past favorite authors have included Stephen King, Tom Clancy and Michael Crichton.

It's hard to go wrong reading Mark Twain. I consider his work to be classic. I read lots of the classics when I was growing up and suspect they have had a lasting influence on the way I think.

I LOVE TO READ!! :)

Right now I'm reading All Quiet on the Western Front (it's really good). I've read so many books that I've already forgotten what my favorite one is! Kite Runner is a pretty good one....

I haven't read the Mysterious Stranger, but I saw a movie which narrated it using claymation (you can look it up on youtube). It was pretty dark and kind of creepy - it shows the darker side of Mark Twain, so it's not the typical comical short story that he usually writes, if that's what you're expecting.

I love reading and remember as a child sitting up next to the bookcase. I read "The Egg and I" which was the introduction to Ma and Pa Kettle. I read all of Shakespeare's books. Those I remember the best. Unfortunately, right now I have some problems reading. I had a cataract removed from my right eye and in 2-1/2 wks. the left one gets done. I have had to raise the print on my computer to see it. My left eye is still bad so I haven't been able to read a lot. Other than that I usually have several books on the go.

My favorite book of all was 'Dancer From the Dance' by Andrew Holleran. Next was 'Cider house Rules' by John Irving. Also loved Grapes of Wrath and Winesburg, Ohio.

Sad to report; though I'm 52, I've become a victim of the 'computer age' and grown lazy with my reading - I prefer short, concise stuff. Complicating this is failing eyesight. My life is increasingly too busy for the committment a good book requires :(

I haven't read that book of Twain's but I've read Huckleberry Finn more than once and love it.

Lately when I'm in my car I've been listening to Harry Potter. I'm working my way through the series by doing audiobooks. I'm on the 4th book so far. Harry & his friends just got to Hogwarts and found out about the Triwizard Tournament. =)

I'm on a Mary Roberts Reinhart book right now. Been awhile since I read any of hers. More into Stephen King now. My brother read The Mysterious Stranger. Said it was good. We read all the time. Have a large "Library" room in our house. It is the most visited room.

Constantly. I honestly would rather read a book than do anything else. Currently, I am reading three books at one time. Nothing to do but stay, a pioneer saga. Stalked, a true story of a woman who was raped twice by the same man and how she helped stalking laws be passed and a story of african refugees coming to america smuggling blood diamonds.
My fav book? Outsiders and Beautiful Joe.
Never read Mark Twain. Classics bore me. But I hope you enjoy it. Reading is cool.
