The legal issue you are probably referring to would be technically termed 'statutory rape'. The laws vary from state to state concerning the legal age of consent and therefore all the violations of consent laws differ from state to state in penalty and views of severity. In Missouri it is unlawful for a person under the age of 15 to marry without parental consent, however, once 15 the decisions fall to the party involved (the 15 yr old). The fact remains that the parents were aware of this relationship, if not from onset, to say the very least for the last year. If there were guidelines to have been in place and concerns to be recognized, they should have been addressed long prior to this situation. The public and private backlash from this will take no less than the strongest of the emotionally and solid family bonds.

according to certain states law, yes it is illegal for a 19 yr old to be dating a minor, an age of 16. but in others, as long as they have the parental consent, there isn't any problem. let alone impregnating her. but if you havent already notice, but they are celebrities. they can do w/e they want. its just there are certain rules they gotta follow.

He will only be charged if she reports it. If she doesn't there is nothing anyone can do. I feel she could of done so much more with her life. I have friends who had kids at 16 and survived but in the world she lives in, how can she possibly make a career in the biz now.

It depends on the state she lives in.
My big question is.....what sort of parents let their children turn in to public disasters????
They should be resonsible for the troubles of not just Jamie but also Britney.
It is so strange....every picture I see of their mom.......she is smiling. I think She should be jailed and punished for being a very horrible mother. (not really- but it feels like it)

If it's legal with parental consent, then consider the source of the consent.....Far as I'm concerned, it's not legal, both the guy and her mother should be brought up on charges.
