My Ibanez bass starts to have a buzzing sound early this morning when i play the 6th fret in the E string. Thats the only part where my bass makes a buzzing sound. Can anyone give me suggestions on what to do? I'm thinking of replacing it but I'm still going to wait till the 2nd week of January to go to my dealer to make sure. Anyway, can anyone give me an opinion before hand? And if i should replace strings, any recommendations that will fit the Ibanez? Thanks :)

A buzzing on a specific fret of one string is usually a sign that the string saddle on the bridge has slipped down slightly. Worn strings will not produce a buzz, but will simply sound more lifeless than newer strings. Because the string saddles located on the bridge of a bass are supported by two tiny threaded screws, and your instrument is constantly vibrating while it is being played, it is not uncommon for these screws to gradually turn on their own, which slowly lowers the string until it "buzzes" against the frets. An easy fix is to use the tiny hexagon wrench (if you don't have one they are dirt cheap at any music store, maybe a dollar or two) on the support screws of the string saddle to raise it ever so slightly; give each screw a half turn clockwise and test for buzz; repeat the procedure until the buzz is gone. A good bet may also be to check with a qualified repair tech about having the intonation of your instrument properly set up; for $30 to $40 a tech can set up your bass for optimum performance and intonation. As for strings, stick to your preferred guage and buy whatever suits your budget.

Raise the height of the bridge saddle for the E string. The string is not the problem. Could also be a high fret or the truss rod needs adjusted (professional only). Good luck.

Take it to a good guitar repairman and have a good look at the neck.It might be warped a little and a simple adjustment to the truss might help. Also if you have played a lot you might need a fret job. I never make any adjustments on my own like raising the bridge, truss or anything Else. Take it to someone you trust.
