On the back of the limit switch are the following numbers:

L160-4.0 R8V

What do these numbers mean? The schematics for my electric furnace list the limit switch as 160°.

The fan limit control switch is in the upper compartment near where the exhaust blower is located, normally on the left of that blower motor, opposite the exhaust pipe outlet. It's a smaller until, about the size of a TV remote or old music cassette. Has what looks like a silver face dial in the middle of it, about the size of a RedBull can top, with numbers etched into it, reading something like 0-300, and having 3 needle points, the lowest one will be set at 100, the middle something like 130, and the last is like 180. Also on the dial face it will show off/on/off. That indicates the temp in degrees when the fan is off(to heat the heat exchanger box), fan turns on(heat exchanger is warm enough so fan comes on), then off(it shuts down to stop heating all together when it's too hot). It will have a temp sensor reset switch wired into it with one wire, and the other wire runs down into a 9 point plug that's connected to the control panel down below. It's a Honeywell part. Google it
