At some point, the tendency of organic molecules to clump and get more complex took off. Ambition is the present effect. The problems created by excess ambition can be dealt with.

Once consciousness developed, it became a potential control mechanism for ambition's excesses. How that is done is a matter of choice.

Simply living for the sake of living till life ends will not make us cheerful. To make us get going and to have a drive, a passion, we must have an ambition in life. If we have a goal in life, we'll definitely try to achieve it meanwhile learning a lot of things. I think ambition is a good trait.

I remember that this was my essay question on my sat exam. Well the first post wrote what i think in just a few words. Oftentimes a negative connotation is attached to this word. I think ambition can have some negative as well as some positive effect. To think that nothing bad will happen to the world is a naive idea, in order to have good thing we must also have some negativity. With ambition great things are accomplished, it is a drive that makes us strive for more. Ambition with audacity can yield something stupendous of a nature that can bring to the world greatness. Imagine the world with no plato, aristotle, copernicus, columbus, galileo, newton, einstein, etc.......

Ambition is a human quality.
Animals have no ambition.
All human qualities can be made good or bad by humans. Ambition is the intention/will/drive to be better. So far, so good. But good at what?
A hitman for the Mob? Uh-uh, this is bad ambition.
How about the ambition to love your spouse forever? But what if your spouse turns out to be a louse? Then your ambition to love becomes a cancer that will kill you. Ask any battered wife who still whines "I know he is a good man, despite all this. He loves me." *&$#@!

I consider ambition as one of the prime sources of all the troubles and stress in our lives, especially since various people's ambitions cross each other. However, our ego wouldn't let us live without some ambition one way or the other.

well what's important, i believe, is that you know your purpose in life. having an ambition may be the reason why you wake up everyday but it doesn't mean you are living a meaningful life. be reflective also on yourself. know what you really want and what you really need. sometimes, people don't realize that they have already accomplished their goal or ambition. or that their aiming at a not so important goal. have faith is a good one. we should trust the One who holds us.

Yes. The only people who are threatened by ambition in others are tyrants, despots and opportunists.

Ambition itself is neither 'good' or 'bad'. But it can be dangerous. The ambitious must step on a lot of others, if they wish to succeed. Who wants to be stepped on?
