Both work hand-in-hand. You can never live simple for long if you're not content. You can also either be content or you could be living a simple life. ^_^

I believe this question has no definite answer since some people may not be content with simple living; therefore, simple living and contentment would be different. Many people would acknowledge to living "simple" lives, however are not satisfied. At least for me, simple living and contentment would be the same.

I think it's basically the same thing. I think of simple living as: being able to appreciate the simple things in life, which materialistic people might overlook, or take for granted, and being satisfied with the simple joy which comes from those things.

Contentment (in this sense of the word) generally carries a similar meaning -- of being satisfied with where you are, and what you have.

The South Pacific island of Vanuatu is the world's happiest country, with the United States ranked a miserable 150th, according to a recent study.

That's because the people on that island really know how to maximize the quality of their lives very efficiently, by simply appreciating the simple life. They might not have CD players, a Nintendo, and a satellite dish... But it doesn't MATTER to them. They don't WANT those things, because those aren't the type of things which make them happy. So by not stressing or WORRYING about such things, they are able to live in peace.

In the U.S., people are more materialistic. So when someone can't figure out how to properly set the encryptions of their wireless router, in order to allow the 3rd computer on their network to have access to their modem... They freak out & get all stressed, and start cursing! ...Meanwhile, a person from Vanuatu is sitting peacefully on the beach, catching a breeze, watching the sun set, biting into an apple, and smiling.

Totally. Simple living can be compared to minimalist choices. You dont need 5 cars, 24 courses of food served for dinner.

Contentment is contentment, it doesnt matter if you are living simply or too grandiosely.

You can live a simple life and still be discontented with it, so I would have to say yes. There is a difference.
