Before participating on this site, I never considered myself a feminist. I have always been very much a humanist, though, advocating for human rights in general. I grew up when women were still very much locked out of math classes, academic programs and opportunities such as NASA and politics. The discrimination was prevalent. Many men were vicious about feminism and many women were confused, much worse than today. It was difficult to survive those times as a young female with your self-esteem intact. Many women my age did not survive those days, emotionally.
I financially contribute annually to NOW and to female political candidates. And I am now, thanks to this site and to the hundreds of links to studies and such that people have posted here, a full-fledged feminist. Women and their children are suffering horribly in poor nations, and women are still struggling with discrimination, lack of equal political representation and with accultured reducements in developed nations and with the viciousness of some really disturbed worthless men who mean us harm. Their type means EVERYONE harm, though. They are the dregs of society, rejected by the majority of honorable men and women. And, that brings me back full circle to humanism and the greater struggle against all savage self-serving racist, sexist, fascist and nationalistic paradigms of exploitation and domination.

There's so many definitions of feminism now due to social changes, its hard to really define yourself as feminist or not - almost like what is a vegetarian these days?
Lets say - I believe in gender equality. I believe that women and men are both equal in mind and there should not be discrimination against both merely because they are of a particular gender.
Decisions should be made on the merits of a person, with no stereotypes involved (eg: women are more emotional and therefore make bad decisions).
Promotions and pay rises should be determined upon the work and potential of the candidate, not upon whether its a all boys or girls club.
Housework shouldn't be divided upon who is the husband or wife, but what would be in the best interests of the family and the children?
Celebrate being a woman or a man and celebrate the human race in general.
If that's feminist, yes I am. If not, then no I'm not. Take it or leave it.
Lets put things this way, shall we? I'm a moderate feminist. I don't take things to the extreme and I don't believe//practice in misandry.

No I am not a feminist I am a huminist. I would like all people to be treated the same. It doesn't just start with me. I want all races, creeds, minorities to be treated the same as well as gender. I want us to be human beings instead of thoughtless coward puppets.

Yes, I am a feminist. I've never believed in anything but equality (as much of it as we can get), and everything I've ever wanted in my life has been made available to me because of feminism.

If by feminist you mean that I think men and women should be entitled to the same pay and the same chance at a job, yes I am. But I still hold doors for my beloved, and won't let her caryy packages. I don't like the Gloria Steinem, Betty Freidan types though. I think they go too far. Also I prefer that my beloved wears dresses and skirts. Am I still a feminist?

I would like for men & women to be equal. Therefore, I am NOT a feminist, as feminism is generally about female supremacy and I am not into male or female supremacy.

Yes, I do.
I believe that men and women are equal, and deserve equal rights.
That is what a feminist is.
(That does not necessarily mean that I believe that men and women are the same, or should be; nor does it mean that I hate men, or am a lesbian).

Though I do hate myself at times, I don't really hate the male gender, nor do I care solely for the well being of women, I tend to care about both sexes, so no, I'm not a feminist.
Sure, a guy can be a feminist, just surrender your virility at the door.

Oh sure, I definitely and completely consider myself a feminist.
The old times are gone. Wishing won't get them back, we need to move ahead into uncharted waters.
I believe feminism is one useful and positive way to do that.
Cheers :-)
