I bought a new PC (complete package). Till then whenever I boot the PC it beeps (long). The manual of gigabyte mobo (I've it) says if there is a continuous long beep it's a DRAM error. I have transcend 512 MB DDR2 (2 stick). I try to re-seat the RAM but it didn't work. I looked inside the chasis when the sound occurs; found out the cooling fan (I've Pentium pro) is trying to rotate (it is equal to the number of beep) while booting but fails. When the beep stops the fan can rotate non-stop. Can anyone help me? Many thanks.

Hi. You could try to replace the DDR2 sticks with another 1GB stick. (This will give you 2GB if it works.) Remove the 'bad' RAM and see if the machine boots. If so then the RAM may actually be bad, but you machine should work on the new RAM.

If there are long beeps - it could be a number of things.
First your going to need to take everything you did- and undo it all.
Now- is there anyway that you can find an alternate to hook the fan up to?- make sure that the processor is seated correctly- etc.
are all the cables, seated correctly?-
Ok Now install the memory- carefully ensure that they line up - and that the notches line-up,

Now when you start your PC- check your BIOS settings- change them if necessary to "HALT ON NO ERRORS"
Most BIOS settings will also allow you to change the type of memory that you are using, try to do that as well.

If you us 2 sticks of memory, trying booting with only one, if successful, go back and install the other stick of memory, if boot fails, then one or the other stick(S) of memory is faulty.

Good Luck!

Unplug the keyboard and attempt to start the laptop. If the beep nevertheless happens make confident all inner factors and cables are seated correct. The final reason must be RAM.
