ok well i have downloaded a bunch of stuff on my hard drive and now it says i need to format it which means i need to delete everything off of it. i dont really know how to describe what happened but does anyone know if there is anyway to save a corrupted external hard drive??

What was the file-system that you used earlier?
IMHO, it's only a problem of file-system unless the hard-disk crashed.
However, even then - there are a bunch of data-recovery tools best ones from Veritas (now part of Symantec).

Hi. If the drive can be set to 'Slave' then just copy the files you want to keep. You may need to connect to a friends computer to do this.
