It is disturbing to know that this man held this position with the FBI. Can you imagine if 12,000 people (probably most would have been Korean Americans or friends & associates of Koreans) had been detained on the grounds of national security. It would have severely put a lid on the first constitutional amendment. No one would be talking with that kind of fear looming overhead. Thank God Truman saw through this nonsense and did not proceed with this horrible request. However, it shows how easily things can go awry with misguided and delusional leaders.

i dont know about evil, but he was definitely paranoid. he believed that everyone except him was a potential threat to america, and as such should be investigated thoroughly, using any and all methods both legal and illegal to do so. i am amazed that a country so determined to uphold its constitution that a man with such blatant disregard of its tenets was allowed to not only run the fbi but to do so for so long.

He was the man to get the Job done then... Also with the presidential election coming close at hand, I wish there was another J. Edgar Hoover... I'm not saying I totally agree with his policy, but IT GOT THE JOB DONE, AND AMERICA ON TRACK!

I think he was evil. Read the book, "Lies My Teacher Told Me" including its take on the man. I remember him being characterized as anti-feminist and racist.

Fortunately, he is no longer a current event! May he know all the pain he caused others.

If he was around now he would be considered a traitor and a hypocrite.
He never would have held his position for so long.
