Can anyone explain why 100 years ago there were no taxes yet the USA was the most prosperous country in the world? Now we're taxed when we make it, save it, spend it and whatever we have left at the end of the year and we're 9+ trillion in debt?

The average American has no idea how vast the tax system is, and how much they pay.

Nearly everything we touch has been taxed at multiple levels.

Taxed upon entry
taxed upon manufacture
taxed to be taxed to raise revenue for the government (phone service, gasoline, utilities)

When you figure in all the hidden (and never disclosed) taxes, it is apparent that we truly work well into the summer each year, just to pay the tax man.

Our prosperity is coming to a dramatic end. The middle class is being eradicated, the government is the biggest it has ever been, we currently pay more people from government to not work, than those that still work (retirements, pensions and disability).

I fear for my children, as I don't know where they will be able to work or how they can even possibly support their own children.

We are quickly approaching a 3 tier society. The haves (ultra rich contributors to the political parties, and the politicians), the have nots (disability, social security & welfare) and the minions (the only middle class left, nearly all government workers).

If the middle class doesn't stop bickering about items that our constitution clearly states should not be governmentally controlled (abortion, gay rights, etc) and start working towards change in this country, they will be in the minority and most will end up in the have not catagory. Sooner, rather than later.

Reality, the other truth.

This nation has had taxes since its inception. Just not the graduated income tax that we are used to now, but we have always had taxes. Also 100 years ago Great Brittan was the most prosperous nation in the world. Americans, being the capitalist nation that we are, actually have a lower tax rate than many other industrialized nations. Many European countries that have huge social entitlements require their citizens to pay more than half of their income to taxes. That's the real price of "free health-care". If we ever want to be a more prosperous in this country again and relieve our national debt we will have to elect politicians that are committed to shrinking the size of the federal government the way that Reagan was during his administration. Nowadays though the republicans want to spend hundreds of billions on pointless foreign wars, and democrats want to piss it away on welfare programs like they always have, so were pretty much screwed. The only perfect system would be a flat tax which all citizens pay equally and the elimination of cash-sucking "social safety nets" like welfare, medicare and social-security, and no wars unless someone actually attacks us .

around the first part of the 1900's a movement started , the so called educated folks, came up with progressive ways of looking at the constitution and the bill of rights. first, they took your most basic right away from you, ownership of your labor! then they took your constitutional money way from you that was print interest free and turn it over to 13 private banking cartels that use your government printing presses to print fiat money and charge you a usage tax( income tax to you liberals ) if you read the Grace report done in the 1980's by the federal government you will see that not one cent collected in the income tax scheme ,goes toward any program for the citizens and not one drop of fuel is bought for any military eqpt from what is called the income tax. then , they took your courts away from you. before 1933, it was the United States Supreme Court, after 1933 , The Supreme Court of the United States. Before 1933 it was United States Treasury, after 1933 the Treasury of the United States.

all I am say folks, open your eyes, since the federal government went bankrupt in 1933, you, your parents, grandparents have been living under military law, look at the gold fringe around the flag, in any court or government dept or building.

J.P.Morgan, said , I do not care what form of government a country has give me control of their money system and i control the country.

This why your politcians desolved the Government of these United States set up by the founding fathers in 1933.

The federal government is a corporation, owned by the banking cartels because of the bankruptcy, brought upon you by politcians who borrowed monies, unconstitutionality and then could not pay it back. Why, because congress did not control the value the US money system, Have you ever heard of the stock market crash of 1929. Franklin Roosevalt, wrote, nothing in politic's happens by chance, its always planned. I think it was a miracle, that they could come up with the entire Federal Reserve System in the ten days Roosevalt closed the banks, but they have not been able to balance the budget in how long, since around 1933.

folks the constitution and bill of rights and more importantly the declaration of independance , the First American Law, are not living brealthing documents, they are a"TRUST "left too you and I by the foundering fathers. When, your polictians started changing the republic to a democracy, they have committed treason against the above three docruments, that they so boldly, take a oath to up hold! But more importantly, they committed it, against you, they have robbed you of your "Birthright" to be soverneign over your own life, if you did not own your labor, your are "Chattel" not free human beings. this is what the founding fathers rebelled for!

Before i take my leave, ask yourself this question. if, the laws past by the dem's or the republician's are so bad, why when the opposite party gets in, they do not throw out the laws, now before you say they may not have a majority. they do not need it! In american law, a law past as to be renew every 4 years or its becomes void. There's no difference between the two parties, keep the masses divided and stupid. they have done a excellent job for the last 8 decades.

Now, do you understand, why the public school system is failing in most location no matter how money thrown at it.

Now i am not a republician or a dem, why? where in the constitution are the politicial parties given the power over, how elections are run or able to make what rules. I pretty sure politicial party are not even mention the in constitution.

Why, do you allow the government and new media to call you consumers, do you not have a mind? Think what is true freedom!

merry christmas

After the Great Depression and FDRs sellout to the American Socialists Party, people got used to the expensive "free" gifts from government and have since been demanding more expensive "free" gifts. It is a type of cancer known as socialism.

EDIT: At the time of the War for Southern Independence, the USA had the highest per capita income in the world followed by the CSA, then Great Britain. Federal taxes came from tariffs on imports. Since a blockade of southern ports to prevent shipping from using their free trade policies was not possible early on, the USA was forced to use an unconstitutional (until the 16th Amendment) income tax to finance Lincoln's war. After WWII, the US position started to recede once the rest of the western world recovered from the war; prior to that, as the world's sole industrial country, we could afford the socialist policies but once things got back to normal, the slide began.

There were no social entitlements prior to taxation. There were no such things as welfare, food stamps, social security, unemployment compensation or medicare. Our exports exceeded our imports without a doubt. American companies still manufactured their goods in America and pork barrel spending hadn't yet been invented. These are a few reasons off the top of my head. And the title to your question, "taxed to death"? Let's not forget the death tax. Most states still impose taxes at the county level and the feds still tax high dollar estates.

Because there's more at work then a simple task of taxes. Forget that we now have a world economy, forget that in this new century the world has more "major players" than just us, forget that 100 years ago we were mostly centralized. Forget all that and you still have the problem that our nation currency has depreciated, changed value, gone through a depression and has been changed more often than Doctor Who. That kinda factors into the your pseudo-intellectual attempt at passively making a point about our nation's policies.

yes, some taxes were implemented to help pay for a certain war by a certain group of people and when they discovered just how much money and control it gave them they made it permanent and kept adding more,
the federal income tax was first enacted in 1862 to support the Union's Civil War effort. It was eliminated in 1872, revived in 1894, then declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court the following year. In 1913, the 16th Amendment to the Constitution made the income tax a permanent fixture in the U.S. tax system.

Decode this lyrics " Up to you"

Get what you need as basic needs.
Then enjoy life.
Look in the real world.
How one want to take everythings in life for one self with only two hands.
Wonder where is everyone going to bring it along it time.
