Yes, I know...most of you are going to say its a Michael Jackson song. But there is reason behind it. Me and my husband both have Billy's and Williams in our family and my grandmas middle name is Jean so its just kind of fits. My questions is....how does the society react to girls being named things that are more common for a boy? I don't want her to get made fun of or anything. ALSO is there any different ways of spelling either name? Thanks

My aunt's name is that. She is 33 years old.....She got her name from her father who's name was William (they called him Billy) and Jean from her mom.

I think of the name as being old timey for some reason.
It is not a bad name or whatever though. No one has made fun of my aunt's name that i know of.

It's very cute for a little girl, especially if you live in the midwest or south. It's great to give her a name that is meaningful, but not a copy.

How about giving her a beautiful feminine name, and using billie as the nickname? That way, she'll have a choice when she gets older. Like:
Wilhelmina Jean
Wilamina Jean
Belinda Jean
Belle Jean
Bella Jean
Belina Jean
Wilhelmina Janine
Belle Janine

or, you could even name her
Jean Wilamina, and still call her Billie Jean
Jean Bella
Janine Bella
Jeanna Belle
Jeanna Willamina

other spellings:
Jeanne
Jeanie

boy names for girls are very in now. so are names that can go either way.

How about Willa Jean or Wilhelmina Regina and you can call her Billie Jean as a nickname? I don't think Billie works as a name by itself - especially for a girl.

Yeah, it's cool, and you know what? So is that song. It doesn't count as negative association if it happened before MJ got all weird. Billie Jean is awesome. Just don't call her BJ. But plenty of women have been named Billie and survived.

Decided yet? I suppose if deep woods country is your life style (not slamming b/c for some it simply is), then it will fit perfectly. If both of you love the name, then do it. Personally, I agree that it is a redneck name with a big red and white target on the front of it. Kids are mean.

I didn't read all of the other posts but do you realize the initials will be BJ ?? Just wondering

well i like the name and i dont think she will get made fun of, and if she were to then its because they are insecure about there own name, everyone has a different opinion about EVERYTHING nonodys the same. but you have to think of it as passing part of your family on with her to isnt that worth something. and to let others influence you into not doing it, you will regret it in the end. trust me, i have two girls, my three year old is IzaBella Chenise, which is a old family name with a new style and chenise is yes a name people around kentucky dont think is suitable for a little white girl, but to me if you met her the name fits, but my 2 year old is Kristen Alessandra and the only thing i picked was nothing i wanted to name her Tristen and everyone said i was wrong the frist time so i said you do it, but now i think about it everyday and wish i would of stuck to my guns and went with what i liked and thought would fit her. think about all points first please

I wouldn't use "Billie" for a girl OR a boy, frankly. Not because it's too "common for a boy," but because it's a nickname. If you have many Billys/Williams you'd like to honor, use Willa or some other actual feminine form! Or even similar Willow, if that's more your style. No need to give her only an informal childish version, after all. ;)

I think it's cute. It does remind me of Michael Jackson or Billie Jean King, but you could spell it Billeigh or Billee Jeanne, to make it different and more feminine.

I like Billee Jeanne

about boy names... my name is Corey and it is used much more often for a guy (especially the way it's spelled). No body makes fun of me for having a unisex or guy name... If you like this name, go for it!
--- a way to make it more feminine is to spell it: Billeigh Jean or some way like that.
