By law you have to be 18 to rent a hotel room, however several hotels have their own standards. Most of them require you to be at least 21 and have a major credit card. You can pay with cash upon check out but, they use the card as a deposit on the room in case there is any damages. If you are just going to pay with cash they will require a valid ID and can charge you a cash deposit for damages or charges made to the room. This deposit will be refunded to you upon check out. DONOT USE YOUR DEBIT CARD FOR THE DEPOSIT. Here is why they will run the card and place a “hold” on a certain amount, you will not be able to spend this money and when the hotel releases that hold it can take a few days for your bank to release the money. Could put you in a bind. However you only have to be 18 to stay at most of the hostels here in the US and there are several nice ones in FL. Might be worth your time checking into those. You can also do something called couchsurfing. Couchsurfing is a website that links travelers from all over the world with other fellow travelers that are willing to open their homes to you and let you stay for free. You can search profiles and send people a request to surf on their couch or in their spare bedroom. Great way to meet people and hey who knows the area better than locals, most will hang out with you and show you around town. Great way to see the states. If you must stay in a hotel you will want to check with them about their age policy, make sure you have some place to stay before you go! We would hate for you to come to the states and then have to sleep in your car! Camping is always another cheap option and there really is no age requirement on renting a camp site. There are several nice places in FL.
Crossing the boarder should not be a problem, just answer the questions that you are asked clearly, don’t be nervous and make sure you are nice an polite. Sometimes the boarder control can be a little “scary”. Also watch what you bring into the US, they are really funny about letting fruits and meats from other countries in. So they might take stuff like that from you. With that said once you cross the boarder hit up the nearest grocery store, buy snacks, drinks and stuff like that. This really saves you a ton of money when you go on roadtrips. We take a long one each year and try to have at least one “cooler” meal a day, hey gives you more money to do things and who really remembers the food on vacation anyway. Make sure you have copies of all your ID’s in case something gets lost. Having copies makes it a lot easier to have a new one issued. Also make sure you write down important phone numbers in case your phone gets lost. Have you medical insurance card with you, accidents do happen and we want you to be covered. Make sure the car is in good condition, have a first aid kit and a roadside emergency kit in case something does go wrong. Don’t forget to check the spare, make sure it has air in it! Other than that sit back, relax and enjoy your time here! FL is great you are going to love it!

just google a few hotel chains and then write or call and ask them if they allow 18 yr olds to stay- simple.
