Depends.
There is a saying that if he succeeds, it's a good move. If he fails then it's a dumb move.
Why not ask him to do both, take an evening or weekend college class on the side while running the business. This way he can grow the business through his education in college and in case the business did not go as well as planned then he would have something to fall back on.

These days education is not a perfect basis that if a person would succeed or not.
for us to be successful these days is to have a lot of guts to succeed in life.
you cannot force anyone to go to college. your friend is not dumb or anything at least he didn't dropped out of college because of some non sense reasons. May be he sees something different, an opportunity to grab on.
Just to think about: One of the most intelligent person in the history of the world is a college drop out, Albert Einstein. And the richest man in the world today is also a college dropout, Bill Gates.
think about it. education is still important but when opportunity comes grab it. Just support your friend

College is very important for most people to get ahead in life.
I did recently hear on the news about a guy who dropped out of school at age eleven, was dyslexic and later in life started his own successful candy business. His parents work for him.So you just never know.

it probably wouldve been a good idea to stay in until the end of the year. its a good idea only if hes got a complete solid hold on a business before he dropped out because if it doesnt work out, hes screwed

There are plenty of people who have become very successful without college. He needs to make that choice for himself, and without knowing what his idea is, I can't say that it's a dumb move.

Take some business classes. I would say this is a bad move, unless he has a lot of money and is ready for a big loss.

college isn't required to start your own business...
after all, if you were the creator of computers, where would you find a teacher to teach you about something you created?
