They should win the Central and can be good enough to win the NL. Beating the AL champ is going to be a tough task.
(ie- Boston, Detroit) They need another decent starter. Wood isnt going to start. Marshall and Marquis are suspect. Dempster is going to try and be a starter again. Murton is not a center fielder. He could be gone before the spring. Right now, CF is between Pie and Sam Fuld.

I'm a Cubs fans, and I think the Cubs still need
some Improvement. The starting lineup Is good,
and If Soto hits like he did late last year, It'll be
an added plus. But It's the pitching. Carlos
Zambrano Is Inconsistent at times, and with Rich
Hill and Sean Marshall, you never know what you'll
get. Ted Lilly was a pleasant surprise, but can he
repeat last year? Carlos Marmol Is great, but Ryan
Dempster Is still very shaky.! The bullpen is adequate,
but I sure wish we had a true closer!!!!
Where Is the center fielder? What was wrong with
Rowand? Felix Pie has shown very little.
It doesn't look good for 2008 unless the Cubs do a
major trade, signing, or miracle!!!!!!

I've been a huge Red Sox fan since 1975. So I have a some time under my belt.

When the Red Sox were making the run in 2004 it was awesome. It didn't start out so good, the Red Sox down three games to none and trailing by a run in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 4, Noooooooooo, they're doing it to us AGAIN!

Fortunately, the Sox came back to win the series in seven games. Something that has never happened in baseball history.

Then we went on to win it all with the Cards!
It was Oct 27 at 11:40pm. A day I'll never forget.
People we going crazy in Boston, car horns, Red Sox chants and singing were going on all night throughout New England.

It took a few months to sink in. Even now, when I think about that night I get chills!

It was the greatest time in Boston and I really hope the Cub fans feel what we did.... soon!

First off Murton won't be the starting CF according to popular belief. I've both heard and been told it will be a battle between Pie and Fuld for the CF spot. Also Wood will never start again unless all the SP in the cubs org. die. He's up to compete for the closers role this year and will be pitching in the pen all year, Marquis or Dempster will be in the rotation or both excluding Marshall which sucks cause he is better than both Dempster or Marquis but nowadays $ speaks louder than words.

As for their chances this year I don't know? I mean on both offense and pitching in 2007 they did pretty well and actually were like the second best in pitching. However looking at Lilly's past #s he kinda over achieved last year so I don't know if he can post a sub 4 ERA and 15 wins again, but maybe the transition to the weaker NL actually makes him that much better 08 will be a better gauge of that. I think he'll do well though (give or take a win or two from 07's total). Their problem actually last year was clutch hitting and ending rally's to short. This year they added Fukodome who is a guy who hits for average and has a great OBP and supplies a little pop. He will either bat 2nd or 5th in either spot he changes the look of the Cubs greatly. In the 2 hole he will get on base for Lee or Ram to drive him in. In the 5th hole he'll be protecting Ram who will get more pitches to hit (why pitch around him to get to a solid hitter). So with that said they should score a lot more runs in 08. I would like to see a move for a CF and a SP but as of right now I'm pretty confident. However this team looked good last year on aper so predictin 100 wins is irrational. I think 90 wins isn't unheard of though and is my expected mark for 08... anything less is unexceptable. I think they will get deep into the playoffs and if the NL playoff schedule is as soft as it was in 07 (I mean the Rockies went to the series c'mon) they should make the series.

Fist off Kerry Wood is never gonna start again. Everyone saw what he could do coming out of the bullpen. Besides a few bad outings here and there, he's gonna be a bullpen guy for the rest of his career. Unless he decides otherwise.

I'd love to see the Cubs win. But they have to win it, and not run scared when something goes bad in a game. They seemed to be able to come over mistakes in the regular season. But in a short series they have to prove thay can anhiliate the opposition anyway possible. So regular season might not be a problem, if you can't win in the playoffs you can't win the World Series.

I bet for Chicago Cubs fans, that it stinks since Boston Red Sox have already won the World Series 2 times in the last 3 years. And they haven't even seen them win it once, and I bet that they will never get to see thier team win the World Series in thier lifetime. But Kerry Wood is not going to be a starter anymore, and if was up to me, he would not pitch in a Chicago Cubs uniform again. Nope, I don't think they will have a shot with this roster/line-up, a lot of thier hitters somehow was just cold during the first round of the playoffs. So don't expect it to happen even in your lifetime, just epect you to be in your grave when it does happen. I do know I rip on the Chicago Cubs a lot, and say the same things, but it is just the sad fact of reality.

Your baseball knowledge is sad. Wood isn't a starting pitcher anymore. Also, your actually ASKING if the Cubs have a chance in the weaker NL?!?!!? The SAME weaker NL where ANY team has a chance any single year... much like football?!?!

Grow up kid... and watch some baseball... the Cubs win in 2008. Although, I've been saying that for 4 years. They would have won in 2003 if Bartman hadn't stolen that ball from Alou.

I'm a Yanks fan... but I play the Cubs on MVP baseball 2005... that should mean something lol.

Im a true blue Cubs fan and I know better than anybody that it really sucks that we cant win. I have alot whitesox fans as family and they still rub it in my face about the only one they have won in 90 years. But..... still they have the bragging rights. I do think that the Cubs will win the NL Central right out. Although I dont believe that we can win against a World Series game against the Red Sox or Tigers. Especially without a everday centerfielder. I dont understand why they cant get one. I know they spent alot of money on alot of people but still Rowand didnt cost that much. Hell bring in Griffey for a year. lol

Pinella would like To get Soriano out of the #1 spot. So he may build up better RBI totals. I saw some of the games Hill pitched and he seems like he is going to be pretty solid. Fukodome and Wood are the wild cards. If they can put it together they should have a decent shot.
