Are the Mad Max sequels just as good as the original? I've only seen the original Mad Max movie which I thought was a great movie and I'm interested in checking out the sequels.

...compared to the renowned classic, emotionally driven first "Mad Max" film, the quite lucrative, compelling, character driven and action-packed follow-ups (...with 1981's "The Road Warrior", being the most dynamic) have proved to be progressively much more high profile, spansive, commercial and high tech...so much so, in fact, that the third film, 1985's "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome", as far as tone and attitude, reflected a certain and definite high-tech and commercial MTV rhythm...not surprising, since the film was produced during the pinnacle of MTV's popularity...

...with each film measureably different in tone, as well as having a progressive and compelling, albeit askewed and grim vision of the future, nevertheless, the "Mad Max" series is overall quite satisfying and entertaining...

...the proposed fourth chapter, "Mad Max: Fury Road", was dropped, when locale production in the north African area, was deemed cautionary, due to the conflict and political instability of the area; however, directer George Miller, who was the directorial mastermind behind the previous "...Max" films, has expressed an indomitable and insistant desire to eventually do another film in the series, but indicated that he might either do either a prequel to the first film, or just reconceptualized the first film, altogether...

...question is, however, will another "Mad Max" film suffer, without the participation of Mel Gibson???

There is an idiot introduced as a comedy relief and no romance replaces his dead wife.
Also, the third movie has a couple of Aussie rock stars in acting roles to add some good sound tracks.
have fun with them ... you'll like them

Actually, the second movie is the best of the three. It is "Road Warrior" and it was an overnight sensation and instant cult classic.
