My grades were bad and I didn't want to persue a career in the field that I graduated in. I just finished it b.c I couldn't see anypoint in dropping out once I got halfway through and realised I hated it.

Two years down the track I am still working in retail, although I am on the path to management, and my store pays some pretty decent dollars.

Would you suggest that another degree in a different field (that I am actually interested in) would be a waste of time, because the bad grades from my other degree will be a fatal black mark for life. Or because with two degrees one appear to not have been motivated from the get go (which is true). That and the fact that I will be 28 when/if I get a second degree.

I am comfortable, but by no means happy in my line of work. For the field I want to work in and the job I see myself doing, you are required to have the appropriate college degree.

I or skip a second college and try for one for the police force or other career services.

I didn't party, that part makes it much worse. If I had partied I'd have atleast gotten something out of it.

You've answered your own question really. "the field I want... the job I see myself doing..."

You need the extra degree, so go get it. It's easier to get "A" grades when you are excited about the subject! Go back to school and be a scholastic dynamo.

When you're done, glaze over schooling on your resume, and explain during interviews. No one is going to slight you for finding your passion later in life!

Good luck to you.

First of all you're going to be 28 whether you pursue another college degree or not. Don't let that be the reason you forgo it. It sounds as if you're not entirely sure about this second degree program/career choice. Why not try to get some practical experience in the field? If possible, try to get a position working in the field or something related. Also, try to meet with some people who are currently in the field. Talk to them about their day-to-day responsibilities, likes/dislikes, and the skill set needed to do well in the field.

This might be better than simply starting another degree and investing the time and money there.

Also, don't be SO worried about your poor grades. Your not the only person this has happened to...not everyone is ready for college the first time around. If you find a degree program you are interested in, take a few relevant courses (non-matriculated) before you apply. If you do well in the courses, the school will be more likely to admit you.

Good luck!

Look into community colleges and two-year degree programs near you, and see what you can find out. Night school might be an option, if you don't want to go through the whole college process again. It also depends on the nature of the field you're going into. Astrophysics... probably a bit more difficult.

I've found that if you show improvement, that's always great. No matter what you've done before, if you do something fantastic now, people will see that and be impressed. I'd say go for what you love, and do what you want to be doing. You can't just be working for the money, because your job will be a gigantic part of your entire existence. Do something that will benefit you, especially if you have the opportunity to.

You won't be satisfied in your work life until you find a field that keeps your interest.
Is going to school again a waste. Education and knowledge is never a waste.

I was a high school drop-out due to economics, and went to college at night when I was 28. No, I don't work in the field I was training for...but the basics stayed with me in my brain.Since a lot of the coursework overlaps , the knowledge can be applied to everyday life. I was a business management /accounting major.

Hey, I think it's great that you even finished college. Sounds like you are still young enough to pursue your dream I say go for it. You only live once. My step son became a police officer because of similar reasons, and has always hated it and complained about it. He has become very cynical. If you can afford to go back to school to do something you would really love, I'd say do it, even if you only go part time and it takes you 5 or l0 years. There's nothing like loving the job you have. Go for it, and don't think it's impossible, it's all up to you believing in yourself! God bless!

I'd suggest investigating the curricula (curriculums?) for two or three degree programs you're interested in, and then try to figure out which is most likely to accept the most transfer credits from your original degree. Then, when you do go back, focus on your studies and no partying! lol Good luck in whatever you decide!

well go back and get into something you are interested in. if you like to help others like i do, then get into social services/human services. it is pretty easy degree to obtain and it is worthwhile. they pay is not high but people who do it do it because they care. otherwise just try to find something that is good for you and you really enjoy. dont feel down or anything. a lot of people are not sure what they want to do. good luck.
