You are not unusual in that many people get blue around the holidays. Some are due to situations just like yours in some way or another [distance or death from a family/friends]
Another contributing factor is that people anticipate/desire a nicer holiday. Comparing your situation to the past and/or what's seen on TV, whether knowingly or in the "self-talk/inner mind dialog". will only add to the depression.
You can make a decision that you WILL have a good time with/where you are right now. A full effort determination to change your attitude can often reverse the unhappiness.
Be aware of any thoughts that occur that are negative and don't let them multiply.
You can also try to do something for someone else during the holiday. Volunteer somewhere that helps the needy if there's anywhere near you.
Do something with a neighbor who has no one this time of year. You can eat a meal together or watch a movie.
Try calling home if possible.
Many times there are places that provide free calls to relatives during the holidays for those that can't afford it.
Call a local tv/radio station; they usually know of these free calling programs.
Libraries have free movies to loan and will be open again on the 26th.

Well I feel you,,I'm having a ruff time too, with this holiday as well and it not just you or me its a lot of people. But we all have to make the best of it, because this suppose to be a wonderful time of year. So try to remember all the good things in life that makes you happy and smile. Thank the Lord for bringing you this far and that you have many more to enjoy. So bring out the photos old and new and rim anise over the good times in those pics and have a great Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. And as for this year for me yes is was its just the end that not. But I will make the best of a bad situation and so should you. BE HAPPY ^o^

Well there you go, you miss your family. I now live 3000 miles away from my family, it's just my husband, dog, cats, fish ,froggy and me, but I still miss my family and I am a bit down about it too. What you are feeling is normal.
What I do is intermingle with my new friends and my husband's family.
YOu are still young so being away from home can be very tough.
I did everything I could to make new friends and I found people that I could fit in with and that accepted me and that makes me feel at ease.
Hang tight, I know how you feel:0) The holidays are tough for me as well. I count my blessings. Just like you, I have a new life and it's time for a new beginning.
A big hug to you, hang tight!

Just try your best to enjoy the holidays. Some people get "Christmas depression" because in a lot of ways the season is stressful. I had a few low moments myself. Hopefully when the events are actually here you will feel better!

i am feeling sad to. Try to do something with some 1. Maybe go shopping and get gifts for some people who cant get any.
Try and not think of all the things that are wrong in your life, and what you have and that is good. I know it is hard, but it is worth a try!
Merry Xmas!

I was on my way to bring a few things for the next days meal. My thoughts were of family and love. The near full moon, in all its cool stillness was right there in the ice covered branches of trees. Warm inside, as watching that icy sight, all felt well in the world.

As the song says: "Don't worry, be happy." Do something for others, so you are not just thinking of yourself.

Family is what makes the holidays. . . holidays. Find a diversion. Get laid. Get a hobby. Make getting laid your hobby.
